Under the guide's lead, Zoe was taken to a big open space. She looked ahead, and right away saw a big crowd—Daniel standing in the middle, surrounded by his men.
At that moment, Daniel was twirling a small knife in his hand, showing off and sneering, his voice full of threat.
He said, "I didn't think you'd actually have the guts to show up."
Zoe ignored his teasing and just said, "Where is our boy?"
Daniel let out a low laugh. "If I let you see him right now, where's the fun in that?"
As he spoke, Zoe's cold eyes looked across the crowd. When she saw a woman in a black cloak, her eyes narrowed.
Even though only her eyes showed under the hood, she looked strangely familiar to Zoe.
Just as she thought that, a gunshot suddenly rang out. Zoe narrowed her eyes, seeing the bullet hit the ground just an inch from her foot. If she had moved even a little, she could have been hit.
But Zoe's face stayed calm, like she was in full control. She said coldly, "I don't have time for your stupid games. If you want to stay alive, you better give him to me now."
Her words made everyone laugh, especially Daniel—his laugh was the wildest. "Did you all hear that? She actually dares to talk to me like that. Looks like I didn't scare her enough."
Daniel suddenly aimed at Zoe's leg and pulled the trigger again. If that shot hit, her leg would be done for—she'd be writhing on the ground like a cut-up worm.
Everyone started whistling and cheering, but just before the bullet reached her, Zoe twisted to the side and dodged it easily—like she could see the bullet's path before it even moved.
That kind of quick reaction was far from normal. Daniel's brow furrowed tightly. Just like Sophia had said, Zoe was no pushover.
Daniel threw his gun away, looking angry. He yelled at his men, "What are you all standing around for? Get her now!
"I want to see her get toyed with and killed. The person who does the most to her will get paid the most."
With so much money on the line, the men charged forward without holding back, rushing at Zoe.
Daniel added from the back, his voice cold and twisted. "You can humiliate her, break her, or rape her. Do whatever you want!"
That made the crowd go wild. At the very back, Sophia, hidden under her black cloak with only her eyes showing, watched everything happen, her eyes shining with excitement.
If it weren't for the security cameras set up here, Sophia would have already taken out her phone to record everything.
Sophia couldn't hide her excitement as she thought, 'I'll finally see that bitch get what's coming to her.'
As that group moved to attack, Zoe's face turned ice-cold. The first two guys rushed at her from both sides, trying to trap her, but Zoe grabbed their heads and slammed them together with a loud crack.
The others tried to come at her, but Zoe twisted her body, and with a strong kick, sent them flying. She threw them aside like trash.
Seeing this, Daniel's face darkened. "Every single one of you is fucking useless! Move out of my way!"
Daniel was furious, yelling loudly. He looked at the man next to him—his secret weapon, the main one to deal with Zoe.
This guy was not like that bottom-tier mercenary Eunice hired.
He was ranked in the top ten on the international assassin list.
He wasn't like Caesar, the merc Zoe killed before—Caesar only made it into the top 108.
Sophia thought, 'Unless Zoe is a top ten mercenary herself, she's dead.
'She's just some country girl with a few tricks. There's no way she's in the top ten. She's finished.' At the back of the crowd, Sophia couldn't help but smile to herself as she watched.
The more she thought about it, the more excited she got—she could barely hold back her happiness.
Right then, Daniel pushed his secret weapon—the top ten international assassin—forward. "Go. Kill her."
The assassin was all business. He stepped up to Zoe and said, "Sorry, girl. I take his money and he wants you dead. You're young, but this is my job."
Zoe let out a cold laugh. "Let's see if you can do it."
They didn't waste time talking—they fought right away. From Zoe's earlier fight with Daniel's men, the assassin saw she was quick and sharp. She was no normal fighter.
His usual weapons would just slow him down here, so he dropped them and went straight into hand-to-hand fighting.
They started punching and kicking, trading blows. After a few hits, Zoe's fist and the assassin's arm collided with a loud thud.
That hit made the assassin stumble back several steps, but Zoe didn't move. Daniel, Sophia, and the others all stared in shock.
In all his years, the assassin had never fought someone like this. A cold sweat slid down his face. He thought, 'Who the hell is this girl, to actually push me back?'
Even with doubts, the assassin stayed true to his top professional side—he ran forward, ready to finish the fight.
"Zoe, you're barely holding on, huh?" Daniel teased from the side, sneering as he raised his weapon and aimed at her.
He remarked, "You're tough. But my guy has ranked in the top ten on the list of killers around the world. You're nowhere near his level."
Daniel thought Zoe was just pretending to be strong, only looking like she had the upper hand because she was pushing herself.
Sophia thought the same. They both believed the assassin would easily kill Zoe without any trouble.
But just when they thought everything would go exactly as they planned, something happened that made them stop and stare—something shocking that turned things around in an instant.
