While Sophia was thinking to herself, Zoe walked straight toward Daniel, who was still frozen in place.
The moment Daniel saw Zoe coming, he started trembling. He actually wet himself right there.
Addy, who had seen a lot in his years, quickly realized Daniel must have made Zoe angry. He stepped in front of Daniel and looked at Zoe with pleading eyes.
Addy said, "Please forgive Daniel. We're ready to pay anything. Please spare his life."
Zoe let out a cold, mocking laugh. "So that means he can just kill someone and get away with it?"
A young racer's life was taken as if it meant nothing. This underground world was rotten to the core.
Zoe raised her foot and kicked Addy aside. Her voice was icy as she said, "In Clusia, if you kill someone, you pay with your life. Today, I'm taking his life to honor my fallen friend."
With that, Zoe kept walking forward. Addy rolled to the side but still tried to get up and protect Daniel, only for a couple of bigwigs from the Eminence Nexus to step in and hold him down.
That was when real fear finally hit Daniel. Regret flooded his mind—deep, gut-wrenching regret.
His eyes got really big with terror, his mouth trembling as if he wanted to say something, but no words came out.
Even his voice broke and he stuttered, "D-Don't come any closer. Don't kill me. I was wrong." He broke down and started crying.
He even fell to the ground, wriggling like a trapped eel, crawling and begging at Zoe's feet—all his arrogance was gone.
With a cold sneer, Zoe said, "You should've never messed with me. And you definitely shouldn't have killed someone close to me. You must die."
As Daniel heard those words, his eyes got huge with terror. He was so scared he couldn't think or run.
All he could do was watch as Zoe's hand grabbed his throat. There was a crack, and Daniel's neck bent in an unnatural way.
His eyes bulged. He didn't die right away—Zoe wasn't going to let him off that easily.
She wanted him to feel the terror her innocent young friend felt in his last moments.
Zoe pulled out a military knife from her belt and cut a deep slash across Daniel's neck. Blood sprayed everywhere.
Daniel jerked violently, like a pig being slaughtered, blood spilling from his cut artery and pooling on the ground. He thrashed in pain, just like an animal dying.
Finally, Daniel's body went limp, the last bit of life fading away—he was completely gone.
It was so brutal and creepy that everyone there felt their nerves stretched tight, scared Zoe might hurt them next. But Zoe looked completely calm.
It was like killing was just a normal, everyday thing for her, as normal as eating or sleeping.
Suddenly, the top leaders of the Eminence Nexus cheered for Zoe, their voices loud in praise of their queen.
To them, she was the tough, fearless queen of the battlefield—undefeated, powerful, and legendary.
After tossing aside her dagger, Zoe's cold eyes looked over at Sophia, full of dislike. That look made Sophia's knees shake and her whole body tremble.
She was scared Zoe would kill her just like she did Daniel. Luckily, Zoe just glanced at her and didn't come over.
Desperate to stay alive, Sophia ran away while everyone was still shocked from Daniel's horrible death. Her escape caused a chain reaction—Daniel's men panicked and chased after her.
"Run!"
"If we don't, we'll be next!"
They all scattered, just trying to stay alive. Zoe didn't bother chasing them; as far as she was concerned, only Daniel deserved to die.
Still, her eyes stayed on Sophia, who was wrapped tightly in a cloak—there was something familiar about Sophia's silhouette.
With Daniel dead and his men running away, even the groups of assassins disappeared into the chaos. Zoe didn't chase after them; the fight was over.
When Addy saw Daniel lying dead, he didn't say a word. He knew there was something even more important today—the weapons deal they were supposed to do right here. But with everything happening, there was no way that could happen.
He couldn't let Zoe and her team find out about the weapons trade; the results would be terrible. So, Addy gathered his men and quickly retreated.
But they couldn't outrun Zoe's team. Soon, two members of the Eminence Nexus came back after checking the area.
One of them told Zoe, "There are several big trucks full of a huge stash of weapons. From the models, they're all from Clusia."
Zoe's eyes turned cold. Clusia would never get involved in shady deals with outsiders. That could only mean someone stole their arms.
They had stolen weapons right in front of Shawn. Things were getting more exciting. Zoe's lips curled into a slight smile.
"Ruler, what should we do about those Clusian weapons? Should we try to stop the whole shipment?"
"The Yaniston government won't bother with this. Should we take the weapons in the name of the Eminence Nexus?"
Zoe didn't answer right away. Instead, she gave a cold, clear order. "Go bring those people back." She meant Addy and his crew.
A little later, Addy and his group, who had tried to run, were pulled back by the Eminence Nexus people. Addy was forced to kneel on the ground, looking scared.
Zoe asked, "Who's behind this?"
The group looked at each other nervously, not daring to speak. Finally, Addy lowered his head and said, "Mr. Finch won't let you get away with this."
Zoe thought, 'Oh, so it was Bruno, the arms tycoon. No wonder he dared to steal Clusian weapons.'
"Ruler, I think we should stay out of this. The Eminence Nexus already has enough on its plate. Getting involved in this arms deal isn't worth it."
"Yeah, Ruler, dealing with this is just a waste of your time."
"When we came here, we saw your teammates were caught. Do you want us to go save them now?"
All the top leaders called Zoe Ruler, showing respect. None of them knew that everything happening here was being watched by Shawn and his team, who were after the shipment of Clusian weapons.
Shawn, hiding in the shadows, could clearly hear the Eminence Nexus leaders talking among themselves.
"Ruler, when are you coming back to the Eminence Nexus? Without you here to keep things in order, those crazy people are running wild."
"Exactly! Just lately, they even blew up our main gate. If you don't come back soon, they might blow up the whole base."
Hearing this, Shawn's sharp eyes narrowed.
If he had even a little doubt before, now he knew for sure—Zoe was Firefox, the Queen of Mercenaries. She was the woman he wanted to marry.
He thought, 'Little fox, looks like I've finally caught you red-handed.'
