Emmett stepped forward. With his tall, slim body and polished look, he stopped in front of Zoe.
He bowed politely like a gentleman and said, "Ms. Evans, I'm Emmett, your special assistant. Whatever you need, just tell me—I'll be ready 24/7."
Emmett gave Zoe a bright, charming smile, kind of like a puppy that one just can't help but like.
Zoe raised an eyebrow and nodded slightly.
Walther added, "Emmett, Ms. Evans is a very busy woman. You need to read the situation—if there's too much going on at the company, just handle it yourself. Don't bother Ms. Evans unless it's really necessary."
Worried that Emmett might not take good care of Zoe and upset her, Walther couldn't help but remind Emmett.
Emmett bowed respectfully. "If it's something I can handle, Ms. Evans won't have to do anything. You can count on me, Walther."
With the arrangements done, Walther rubbed his jewelry-encrusted fingers together and smiled at Zoe. "Alright, Your Majesty, let me personally show you to your new office."
He added, "I wasn't sure what style you'd like, but I thought your office should be bold and impressive, so that's what I arranged."
Emmett quickly added from the side, "Don't worry, Ms. Evans. I oversaw the renovations myself—it will definitely match your taste."
Zoe nodded and agreed to go see her new office.
When Zoe stepped inside, she was greeted by a big, simple space. Besides the basic desk and chair, and a few potted plants, there was nothing extra—very simple but perfect for a business boss.
Not far ahead, a wall of big windows from floor to ceiling filled the room with sunlight. Zoe took a few steps closer and was instantly warmed by the sunshine.
"Ms. Evans, I hope you like it. If you want anything changed, just tell me—I'll make it perfect for you," Emmett said politely.
Zoe was very happy. Standing in front of the windows, looking out at the city, she felt like she was back on the battlefield, facing Shawn in a big moment.
After her tour of the office was done, Zoe was ready to leave. Emmett, always paying attention, went with her all the way to the elevator.
Since Emmett was Zoe's top assistant at Marlowe Group, all the work Zoe didn't do herself was handled by him. He had an important project to deal with, so he had to leave Zoe at the elevator.
Zoe took the elevator down to the first floor by herself. When she stepped out, she almost bumped into Eunice, who was coming out of the elevator.
At first, Eunice didn't notice Zoe at all. She was walking with her new coworkers, chatting about the new chairwoman.
"The management hasn't said a thing about our new chairwoman, why?" someone wondered aloud.
"It's like the whole company is keeping her a secret," another added.
"A few managers have met her, but they won't say anything. Not even her name," someone else said.
"Why all the mystery? Is she that ugly?" someone finally muttered.
Trying to join in, Eunice said mysteriously, "I think I saw the chairwoman today. She looked like a young woman."
"You saw her?" Eunice's words caught everyone's attention, and they gathered around her, eager to hear more.
The truth was, Eunice hadn't really seen her clearly—just a blurry figure from behind. But with everyone hanging on her words, her ego took over.
After all, no one else had really seen the chairwoman, so even if she made up something, no one could prove her wrong.
"She's beautiful, young, and definitely a powerful woman." Eunice described the chairwoman as she imagined her. Meanwhile, Zoe, who just came out of the elevator, heard everything. She just raised an eyebrow.
Zoe couldn't care less about Eunice and was about to walk away, but just then, Eunice saw her through the crowd. "Zoe, what are you doing here?"
Eunice's surprised shout rang out. She never thought she'd see Zoe here—this was Marlowe Group, after all. Outsiders weren't even allowed inside.
That made Eunice rush over. "Zoe, are you crazy? This isn't just any place—only staff can be in here. How did you get in? You need to leave now. Did you sneak in? Just go!"
As she spoke, Eunice exaggerated and tried to shoo Zoe away, making it look like Zoe had sneaked in.
Marlowe Group's security was so tight, not even a fly could get through if it wasn't an employee.
With Eunice's obvious hints, her coworkers started looking at Zoe suspiciously, directly targeting her.
"Anyone can just walk in now? What are the guards even doing?" someone said.
"Eunice, is that your sister? She's here to see you? Outsiders aren't allowed in this place," another added.
Seeing Zoe not leaving, Eunice smiled sweetly at her, then waved to the guards. "Hey, can you come help me get my sister out? She doesn't work here."
"I really don't know how my sister even got in. Please, just take her out," she said, acting all innocent.
She called security to throw Zoe out, acting like she was just following the rules. Zoe's face darkened, but the guards hesitated, not acting right away.
That annoyed Eunice, so she snapped at them, "What's taking so long? The new chairwoman just started—if you slack now, you'll be the first to get fired!"
Finally, the guards moved and started walking over.
"Zoe, you should really leave. This isn't your small town—you can't just walk in wherever you want," Eunice said sweetly, yet still calling security to kick Zoe out. She was the picture of a two-faced schemer.
Zoe's face became even colder, but Eunice looked even happier with herself, trying to humiliate Zoe in front of everyone.
After all, she didn't ask Zoe to barge into Marlowe Group without permission.
"What are you all waiting for? Want the new boss to catch you slacking? She just took over and is looking for a reason to fire people. Are you trying to get yourselves fired?" others started urging the guards too.
The guards had no choice but to surround Zoe. "Miss, can you please leave?" one of them said politely.
Eunice smirked, just waiting to see Zoe get kicked out in disgrace.
Zoe calmly said, "I'm the new boss. Since when do I need permission to come into my own company?"
