Sophia asked, "But they're just a bunch of kids. Is that even possible? Someone as cold as Firefox would actually care about them? And if that were true, wouldn't someone have already used those orphans against her by now?"
Samuel chuckled. "It's true. And you're right. Those orphans haven't been targeted because they've got some seriously tough people watching their backs.
"Their identities aren't exactly a secret. They're the three guardians who run the Eminence Nexus for Firefox: Warhammer, Medusa, and Kestrel.
"These three are insanely strong—aside from Firefox and Shawn, they're basically the top fighters in the world."
Sophia's smile grew even more self-satisfied after getting the answer she wanted.
She thought, 'So, you're the so-called Queen of Mercenaries? Too bad you're still just human. Everyone's got a weakness. And soon, you'll be nothing but a corpse.'
"Thanks, Samuel. I suddenly feel like I understand a lot more now. I've got something to do, so I'll head back to my room..." said Sophia.
Sophia wasn't about to tell Samuel who she was really targeting. Not that Samuel would ever suspect his own sister was getting mixed up with someone as dangerous as Firefox.
Back in her room, Sophia immediately pulled out her phone and called an overseas contact. "I know you've always wanted to take down Firefox, the Queen of Mercenaries. Help me out, and I promise that taking her out will be a breeze."
A rough, scratchy sound came from the other end. "Hey, little sis, this isn't a joke."
"I know. The real question is, do you have the guts to gamble?" Sophia chuckled. "Besides, I heard the Crimson Mercenaries steal your thunder again. Always stuck in second place must sting, right?"
"You!" The person on the other end was fuming.
"Relax. Let me tell you my plan..."
After Sophia finished laying out her entire plan, the person on the other end suddenly burst out laughing. "Good, very good. You did great." He sneered, "Firefox, never thought you'd end up like this."
Sophia was practically buzzing with excitement after hanging up the phone. Just thinking about finally getting rid of Zoe made her heart race.
With Zoe out of the way, Shawn would have no one else to marry but her. After all, Sophia couldn't imagine another Firefox showing up to steal him away.
When Sophia came downstairs, Samuel was already gone, but that didn't put a dent in her good mood. "Tell the kitchen to prepare a feast tonight—seafood, king crab, sea cucumber, I want it all," she ordered cheerfully.
The servant heard Sophia rattling off the menu and hurried off to pass her orders to the kitchen.
Meanwhile, Sophia strolled over to the wine cabinet, eyeing her father and Samuel's collection of rare vintages—bottles like Lafite and tequila, each worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, some even bought at auction for millions.
She picked a bottle at random. Tonight definitely called for opening something special to celebrate.
Just as Sophia picked out a bottle of wine for the celebration, her parents, Anna and Eric, happened to come home. Anna walked arm-in-arm with Eric, looking as graceful as ever as they entered the living room.
Anna spotted her precious daughter holding a bottle of red wine and, a little surprised but gentle, said, "Sweetheart, what's the good news? Are we celebrating something tonight?"
Sophia replied with a smile, "No, Mom, I just thought it'd be a shame to have seafood tonight without some red wine to go with it."
Anna chuckled, helped Eric out of his coat, and sat down with him on the sofa. "You know, you seemed a bit down lately. How come? I was worried you were still upset about the Ludwig family breaking off the engagement," she said.
"Looks like I was worried nothing. You really do know how to bounce back, sweetheart."
Sophia said, "Mom, I was really upset. Shawn announced in front of everyone that someone else was his fiancée. He didn't even care about how that made me, Ms. White, look."
As she spoke, Sophia set the wine down on the coffee table and sat beside her mother, affectionately leaning her head on Anna's shoulder.
