Eric nodded in agreement. Even Anna, who was always gentle, couldn't help but get upset. She said to Eric, "Honey, this marriage was something both families agreed on back then.
"Now the Ludwig family just calls off the engagement without even telling us, doesn't give a single reason, and even goes so far as to acknowledge another girl. They're treating our family like we don't matter at all."
Anna's words fired up Eric as well. He said, "Exactly! We have to make the Ludwigs give us an explanation. Otherwise, what's to stop them from walking all over us in the future?"
Seeing his parents on their side, Samuel quickly reassured Sophia, "Sophia, you see? We're all with you. We'll help you."
But Sophia hesitated, stammering a bit. She didn't care about the engagement itself. What she was truly afraid of was her parents and the White family finding out she'd framed Amy. She had no idea how they'd treat her if that ever came to light.
But she couldn't worry about that now. She thought, 'As long as Zoe is dead, there will be no evidence left. Once the White family put pressure on the Ludwig family, the title of Shawn's fiancée would still be mine.
'Looks like I shall make sure Bruno takes care of Zoe before the White and Ludwig families end up in a face-to-face confrontation.'
Sophia said, "Dad, Mom, Samuel, let's not rush into this. If we go to the Ludwigs right now, it'll just make us look like we're making a fuss over nothing. Besides, if this blows up, it won't be good for anyone."
Sophia's words made her family beam with pride. Anna said, "Sophia, you've grown up. You're thinking about the family now. I am so proud of you."
Eric said, "That's right. We can't just go straight to the Ludwigs. We need to be prepared. Only when we have real leverage can we force them to back down." He already made plans.
"I'll help, Dad. Since Sophia wants to marry Shawn so much, let's just go all the way this time and make sure Shawn has no choice but to marry her," Samuel promised confidently.
Seeing her whole family standing by her, Sophia, who'd been feeling a bit guilty, suddenly felt a weight lift off her shoulders. She thought, 'With my family treating me so well, maybe even if they find out something later, they won't hold it against me.
'Right now, the only thing I need to do is get rid of Zoe, the obstacle in her way.'
Ever since the Ludwig family accepted her, Zoe had been invited over often. Amy still needed time to recover, so Zoe made a point of coming by every day to help with her treatment, just to make sure nothing else happened.
Meanwhile, Yancy had left Clusia for a while to handle other matters.
When Zoe arrived at the Ludwig residence, she was greeted by more than a dozen servants lined up at the door. It was a grand and formal welcome.
Amy, sitting in her wheelchair and pushed over by a caretaker, smiled warmly at Zoe. She said, "You've been through a lot, child. Everything that happened before was our fault, but from now on, things will be different.
"Treat this place as your home. There is no need to stand on ceremony with us. I've already had a guest room set up for you.
"Shawn is always off at the base and rarely comes home. If he knew you were staying here, I bet he'd come back and stay a few days too."
No matter what, Amy always found a way to mention Shawn. Compared to Joseph, Zoe found Amy much easiergoing and kind.
