Bruno forced himself to stay composed. He was still convinced that Zoe was no threat to his powerful arms base. He barked out coldly, "Pathetic! Is this all it takes to scare you? Crank up the firepower, blow them up!"
The subordinate hesitated. He said, "But sir, if we use heavy weapons, we might hit our people."
Bruno shot him a frosty glare and said, "What, you got a problem with my orders now?"
After a brief silence, the subordinate replied, "Understood. I'll make sure they go all out to intercept the Eminence Nexus team."
With Bruno's side locking down its defenses, Zoe switched up her strategy.
Previously, it was a direct and forceful advance, aiming to strike at the heart of the enemy. Now, the strategy had shifted to dispersed actions, targeting and defeating the enemy one by one. Zoe ordered, "Kill them all. Leave nothing behind."
Killing people was far too easy for those from Eminence Nexus. In a frenzy of attack, they left no place untouched and no one alive.
Zoe once again donned her fox mask. She carried a shoulder-fired rocket launcher with one hand and advanced steadily. Wherever there was a strong enemy position, her rocket launcher would fire, with pinpoint accuracy and without a single miss.
This prevented the advanced heavy weapons at Bruno's side from even getting a chance to be used, as they were taken out first by Zoe.
As one enemy position after another was destroyed, Zoe became bloodthirsty. She thought of the children in the orphanage, who hadn't even had the chance to see the beauty of the world before being killed by blades that had nothing to do with them.
The anger drove Zoe to keep firing her rockets without pause.
Bruno's base was still quite sturdy, with many traps and heavy fires laid by Bruno before, including numerous landmine arrays designed for human interception. The reason Zoe mobilized people from Eminence Nexus was to guard against this.
The moment they charged into the castle, a genius madman controlled a mechanical puppet that began to thoroughly check the ground for safety. Whenever a mine was detected, the puppet would detonate it directly, clearing the way for those behind.
Zoe's crew charged straight into the enemy's lair. Along the way, countless mines were exposed and destroyed, leaving the ground pockmarked and shrouded in smoke. It was precisely because of this that the battle between the two sides was so fierce.
With half their territory already taken by Zoe's crew, Bruno's men finally started to lose their nerve.
A few of the lead guys rushed up to Bruno. One said, "Mr. Finch, their firepower is insane. You saw it yourself, we can't stop them! If this keeps up, we're done for!"
Another said, "They are just monsters. They are all geniuses or total lunatics."
Someone said, "Mr. Finch, please, you have to do something! We can't let those maniacs break through our last line of defense!"
The situation was getting out of hand, but Bruno just stared coldly at his panicked men and said, "Just one woman has you all this scared? And you call yourselves my man?
"Since they can dodge the mines, let's give them a little rainstorm of our own."
At those words, everyone's expression changed.
Bruno continued, "Let loose all the firebombs we've got. Sure, they can clear the mines, but there's no way they can handle that many Molotovs coming down. Unless they can take out every single one in midair, otherwise, they're doomed."
Bruno was sure his plan was airtight. He thought, 'No one could pull that off.'
Bruno's men agreed. They thought, 'Once those firebombs hit the ground, they will set off all the unexploded charges. By then, even if Zoe and her crew try to break through, it will be a miracle if any of them make it out alive.'
Bruno's men went to carry out the plan. Bruno switched on the monitor and waited to see the results.
All the hidden traps sprang open at once, launching a barrage of firebombs straight at Zoe and her crew. Over a hundred launchers fired in the very first volley.
As soon as those firebombs hit the air, they burst into flames, raining down fireballs like there was no tomorrow, scattering the crowd in a panic.
Seeing this, Medusa rushed to Zoe's side. She asked, "Boss, this is way too dirty. How are we supposed to push forward?"
On the battlefield, everyone took their cues from Zoe. When it came to tactics, she was in total command. Her leadership was on par with Shawn's.
Zoe kept her cool and gave a crisp, decisive order, "I'll cover. You find the launchers. Take them all out."
With that, Zoe grabbed a machine gun from someone nearby. She hefted it onto her shoulder like it weighed nothing and started picking off the firebombs one by one.
Her aim was insane. Even in the chaos, every single bullet found its mark, blasting a firebomb out of the sky.
Wave after wave of firebombs shot overhead, but Zoe gunned down every last one, blowing them up midair. Only harmless bits rained down. Nobody got hurt.
Zoe's skills were next-level, sharp, and fierce. When Bruno and his crew watched from behind the monitors, they were scared out of their wits.
With Zoe clearing the way, the Eminence Nexus bigwigs weren't about to sit around. They split up fast, hunting down the launchers. In less than a minute, Medusa and her team destroyed every single one.
When Bruno's men saw their barrage get wiped out by Zoe and her crew like it was nothing, they nearly lost it. Shaken and panicked, they rushed to find Bruno.
Bruno, already watching everything unfold on his monitors, just sneered. He said, "Firefox lives up to her reputation. Since she wants to play hardball, let's up the ante.
"Roll out the tanks and fighter jets we just bought. I want a full assault from above and below. Make sure none of them get out alive."
"But Mr. Finch, if we start dropping bombs, we might blow ourselves up too," one of his men stammered.
Bruno waved him off. He said, "What are you so scared of? I've already had this whole base reinforced with special blast-proof materials. Even if the surface gets flattened, we'll be perfectly safe down here."
The so-called castle above was just a decoy. The real weapons base was hidden underneath, built entirely with explosion-proof materials. Bombs were the least of their worries.
Bruno thought, 'Even if Zoe chases all the way here, the base's indestructible shell would keep her out. As long as I stay put, no one can touch me.'
Seeing Bruno so calm and confident, his men finally relaxed. They thought, 'Mr. Finch isn't afraid, why should we be? All we have to do is fight.'
The battle raged on.
