Medusa strolled over to Zoe, arms crossed. She let out a low sigh and said, "This arms tycoon has a treasure trove of gear. What a pity."
She added inside, 'What a pity that we won't get a chance to hijack any of it. Once the fighting starts, all this stuff will just end up as scrap metal.'
Zoe's voice was icy as she asked, "Has backup arrived?"
Medusa glanced at her watch and replied, "No, still a few more minutes."
Zoe said, "We can't wait. Bring those maniacs over here. Aren't they always whining about not having a chance to show off? Well, here it is. Tell them to tear these machines apart for me." Her voice was wild and full of disdain.
In this world, the only person who could make those lunatics from Eminence Nexus go all-in was Zoe.
Medusa immediately went to notify the weapon-obsessed crew from Eminence Nexus.
Just like Zoe said, these guys always felt their talents were wasted. Now that they finally had a chance to shine, there was no way they'd let it slip by.
One of them rushed up to Zoe, practically shoving his latest invention at her. He said, "Queen, this is my custom high-energy corrosive laser gun. Just aim it at any hunk of metal and fire.
"No matter how tough the armor, it'll burn a hole right through. Nothing can stop it."
As he spoke, he hefted the gun and gave Zoe a live demo. He shouldered the weapon, looked up, and took aim at a fighter jet overhead.
The projectile blasted out, punching straight through the jet from one side to the other. With this thing, they could go toe-to-toe with fighter jets in the sky even without anti-air missiles.
Zoe just lifted her red eyes and said, "Use it. Keep moving."
Hauling the high-powered corrosive laser gun the whole way, Zoe's crew blasted through every chunk of metal in their path, leaving Bruno's men dropping like flies.
Finally, Zoe reached the heart of the castle, a towering structure. "Blow it up," she ordered coldly.
This time, she didn't even need to lift a finger. The maniacs behind her each unleashed their weapons of choice, launching an all-out assault on the massive building.
In less than a minute, the centuries-old structure came crashing down with a thunderous roar, reduced to nothing but a pile of rubble.
By the time Zoe stormed into the castle, Bruno's men were already few and far between. The entire place was now under her control.
After leading a sweep with her team, Medusa returned to Zoe's side and reported, "Boss, still no sign of Bruno, but someone found a hidden structure beneath the ruins. If I had to guess, that old bastard's holed up down there."
Zoe's face stayed cold as she ordered, "Blow it open."
Medusa replied, "Yes!"
Just then, their reinforcements arrived. It was the full force of Crimson Blaze.
They were all battle-hardened pros. There were no weapon restrictions, so they brought all the firepower they had. Everything that could be brought out, whether it flew in the sky, drove on the ground, or was held in hand, was all put to use.
At Zoe's command, the fighter jets hovered over the ruins, dropping bomb after bomb until the already wrecked site was flattened to the ground.
The hidden structure underneath finally showed itself. But Zoe immediately noticed the material was unusual. Regular bombs barely made a scratch, and there was no need to waste the big guns.
"Get me some chemists," Zoe ordered.
Soon enough, a handful of Eminence Nexus's eccentric chemistry experts were rounded up and brought before Zoe. They grinned, about to butter Zoe up.
Zoe cut them off coldly. She said, "Save it. How long to melt that thing?"
As soon as the building was exposed, weapon ports popped open everywhere like eyes, ready to fire at anything that moved.
Anyone who tried to get close would be riddled with bullets, and as long as the people inside stayed behind that tough shell, no one could touch them.
Those chemists exchanged glances. One said, "Twenty minutes."
Another said, "No, ten."
After listening to their stammering and arguing without a straight answer, Zoe got impatient. She grabbed a pen, quickly scribbled out a chemical formula, and handed it over. She said, "You have five minutes. Melt that shell."
Meanwhile, one of Bruno's men reported, "It's bad news, Mr. Finch. They're trying to melt through our last defense wall. Once that's gone, we'll have nothing left to protect us. They'll just storm right in!"
Another said, "Mr. Finch, maybe we should retreat. If we run now, we might still have a shot at surviving."
Someone said, "This is insane. That mercenary, Firefox, she's terrifying. No wonder they call her the Queen of the battlefield. Mr. Finch, we have to do something."
Bruno slumped heavily into his chair. He never would've believed that Firefox, a woman he'd always underestimated, could be this powerful.
The arms empire he'd built up with so much effort was now mostly destroyed in less than half an hour. There was only one last line of defense left. If that fell, they'd be trapped with nowhere to run, like fish in a barrel.
Bruno said, "Run? Where could we possibly go? If even this place can't stop her, she'll hunt me down to the ends of the earth and kill me, no matter where I hide."
Bruno, once a ruthless kingpin, was feeling true fear for the first time in his life. And the person who made him feel this way was a woman he'd never even taken seriously. He thought, 'What kind of monster had I provoked?'
One subordinate asked, "So what now? Are we just supposed to sit here and wait to die?"
Bruno sat in his chair, hands shaking. Finally, a cold, ruthless glint flashed in his eyes. He thought, 'If it's come to this, I might as well trigger self-destruct and blow the whole place sky-high, taking everyone down with me.
'That way, Firefox would die too. And I will have avenged Daniel and myself.'
When Bruno's men heard that Bruno was about to activate the self-destruct program, they immediately objected. One said, "No way! We can't activate the self-destruct program. We're not ready to die!"
Another chimed in, "Yeah, same! My wife and my mistress are both waiting for me at home!"
As they all argued about what to do next, an explosion rocked the place.
Right after, a strange chemical started pouring down from above. The moment it hit the blast-proof walls, it began to eat right through them.
The once rock-solid walls quickly melted away. Then, another blast tore a massive hole straight through, destroying the supposedly indestructible bunker.
Bruno was left with only one thought, 'It's all over.'
