Simon, the third son of the White family, was the first to come home. He was still a college senior and hadn't graduated yet, so he had plenty of free time.
As soon as Sophia spotted Simon, she hurried over and said, "Simon, do you have a minute?"
Simon knew Sophia pretty well, so he immediately said, "Sophia, don't even think about asking me to let you out. If Mom and Dad find out, I'll lose my allowance for the whole month."
But Sophia put on her most pitiful face. "Simon, I just want someone to talk to. I can't even use my phone or computer right now. You used to spoil me the most. Are you really not even going to talk to me now?"
Seeing his little sister looking so miserable, Simon's heart instantly softened. "Okay, we can talk. But don't try to pull anything else."
"I won't. I promise," Sophia said.
After Simon listened to all of Sophia's complaints, he jumped up, furious. "I can't believe it. Zoe is really that kind of person? No wonder you had to deal with her."
Sophia kept going, "Simon, now everyone at home thinks I started all this and locked me up, but that's exactly what Zoe wanted. I don't really care about myself, but I'm worried she'll get even more ambitious and start targeting our family."
Simon was fuming. "Unbelievable! I thought she was easy to get along with, but she's just a sly little fox. I'm going to tell Dad right now."
Sophia quickly grabbed his arm. "No, you can't tell Dad. He won't believe you."
Simon said, "Then what should we do? We can't just let this go."
Sophia said, "It's no use if it's just the two of us. But if we had more people, maybe we could come up with something."
Simon said, "That's easy! I'll go get Samuel and Alex. Then the four of us can figure out a plan together."
Sophia looked troubled on the outside, but inside, she was thrilled—she knew Simon was always the easiest to fool.
Once Simon brought Samuel and Alex over, that would be her real time to shine.
Before long, Samuel and Alex got home too, and Simon brought them straight to Sophia's room.
The moment Sophia saw her three brothers, she sat down at the edge of her bed and started sobbing, looking completely wronged and pitiful.
Samuel's brows furrowed in concern. "Sophia, what's going on? Who upsets you? Tell me."
"Who else could it be? It's got to be that Zoe!" Simon chimed in angrily.
Alex, on the other hand, kept a stern face. "If Sophia did something wrong, it's only fair someone came to confront her."
"Alex, I was forced into it! You guys have no idea how awful Zoe is. She bullies me behind everyone's back," Sophia choked out, her voice trembling.
Sophia said, "Last time I went to Yaniston for a trip. I happened to catch her making some shady deal. I tried to talk her out of it, but she wouldn't listen and even thought I was just jealous of her.
"How could I possibly go up against her? I wanted to collect evidence, but I couldn't get anything. I had no choice but to ask someone to introduce me to Daniel so I could protect myself.
"That whole thing was just an accident. I never thought she'd lose it and kill Daniel and so many others. You guys have no idea. She's a total maniac!
"I swear everything I'm saying is true. She really killed a bunch of people in Yaniston. And that arms dealer? I didn't go looking for him—he came to me, wanting revenge for his son.
"He's the kind of guy who wouldn't hesitate to kill. He even threatened me, saying if I didn't help, he'd wipe out our whole family. I've been under so much pressure, I-I was just so scared something would happen to the White family."
With constant words, Sophia managed to clear herself of any motive for the murders and made it sound like she was only trying to protect the White family.
And all three brothers bought every word.
