Everyone was thinking the same thing. The Ruler of Eminence Nexus was supposed to be a teenage girl who looked a lot like Zoe.
As a member of Eminence Nexus, Mandy didn't hesitate to ask Zoe right in front of everyone.
Mandy's question hit like a thunderbolt, leaving everyone in stunned silence.
People were frozen in place, forgetting to even breathe.
They couldn't believe what they'd just heard.
Everyone was asking themselves, 'Did Mandy really just ask if Zoe is the Ruler of Eminence Nexus? Is this some kind of joke?'
Faces shifted from shock to disbelief, but none more dramatically than Eunice's.
She'd never thought Zoe was anyone special, but after hearing Mandy's question, Eunice actually started to tremble.
After all, Mandy was now a member of Eminence Nexus. Her words definitely carried weight.
Eunice couldn't help but think, 'What if Zoe really is the Ruler?'
The other students were so nervous their palms were sweating.
They mocked Zoe so many times. If she really were the Ruler, she could wipe them and their families out in an instant.
Everyone was dumbfounded.
But just then, Zoe met Mandy's gaze, swept a cold look over the crowd, and calmly said, "I'm not."
Of course, she wouldn't admit it. If Shawn found out, things would get messy fast.
What really bothered Zoe was that, in the rush of Eminence Nexus's emergency summons, she'd completely forgotten Mandy was there. That was careless.
Zoe's answer made Mandy visibly relax. "Really? You're really not?" she asked.
The tension in the room instantly melted away, and everyone finally let out a breath.
"Mandy, do you really expect us to believe Zoe is the Ruler of Eminence Nexus? That's just ridiculous! You don't have to make up such wild stories just to defend her."
"Yeah, everyone knows that's impossible."
"Even if the Ruler was someone like Eunice, there's no way we'd believe it was Zoe."
The crowd's words left Mandy silent, even though she still had so many doubts in her heart.
After all, the Ruler she saw at Eminence Nexus looked so much like Zoe. Even the way she dressed was almost identical.
But in the next second, Eunice's words wiped away all of Mandy's suspicions.
Eunice said, "Of course not. Zoe grew up in a small town—our family looked into this thoroughly. How could she possibly be the Ruler of Eminence Nexus? That's about as likely as a fish flying in the sky.
"And besides, Zoe once claimed in front of everyone at Marlowe Group that she was the chairwoman. So even if she admitted it herself, I wouldn't believe her. And now she's saying she isn't, so that settles it, right?" Eunice said.
As Eunice finished, Mandy lowered her head, thinking to herself, 'Looks like I really did mistake someone else for her.'
The crowd started buzzing again, putting Zoe right back in the center of attention. Eunice shot Zoe a smug look, chin lifted in triumph.
Eunice thought to herself, 'How does it feel to be laughed at and looked down on by everyone? Not so great, huh? Zoe, this is just the beginning.'
Just then, the teacher walked in and called out, "Alright, everyone, quiet down! I've got some great news—Marlowe Group is teaming up with Highcrest University to host a massive competition: the All-Around Genius Competition!"
"The All-Around Genius Competition?" someone blurted out in surprise.
Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Most people are only good at one or two things. Someone great at medicine might not know a thing about piano, and a pianist probably can't hack.
Some people are good at everything, but they're as rare as unicorns. Eunice and Philip are those kinds of all-round geniuses.
Once the class had quieted down, the teacher continued, "This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Anyone who completes every challenge will get a direct offer from Marlowe Group and a job there."
The room buzzed with excitement as everyone jumped to their feet.
This was a shot at joining Marlowe Group. Even students who weren't confident in every area couldn't help but feel tempted to give it their all for a better future.
"I'm already part of Marlowe Group," Eunice announced loudly, her tone full of pride. "Shouldn't I let someone else have this chance?"
She was showing off, and instantly, every student around her shot her looks of envy.
They all secretly wished they could be as talented and confident as Eunice, able to say something like that without a second thought.
The teacher replied, "Even if you're already with Marlowe Group, you can still use this challenge and assessment to earn a promotion."
Eunice had been pretty dismissive about the spot at first, but the moment she heard there was a shot at a promotion, her eyes lit up.
As students started signing up one after another, the teacher cut them off, "No need to sign up. This time, it's mandatory. Everyone has to take part in the challenge and assessment, no matter how you feel about it. No one gets to sit out."
The students in the classroom were in an uproar.
There are always a few students in every class whose grades aren't exactly great.
But now everyone had to participate. They thought, 'Isn't this just forcing the average students to come in last and get laughed at?'
Still, if they worked hard, maybe they'd have a shot at joining Marlowe Group.
That would be a straight shot to the top.
The students started clamoring again, "When's the competition? You've got to give us some time to prepare."
"Yeah, we need time to get ready!"
But the teacher just announced, "No time to prepare. The competition's in three days."
Right away, the classroom was filled with groans and complaints.
At the same time, everyone turned to look at the all-round genius, Eunice.
One by one, they started showering her with compliments.
"Eunice, you're totally going to land that promotion at Marlowe Group this time! That's incredible—just started and already moving up. Your future there is looking bright. When you make it big, don't forget about us, okay? Help your old classmates out!"
"Yeah, Eunice, we're all counting on you to give us a boost!"
Eunice grinned smugly, "Relax. If I really do get promoted, dinner's on me."
She didn't actually promise to help, nor did she say no—just left these fellow heirs and heiresses from powerful families with a bit of hope.
After all, she might need to use them someday, and that was exactly what Eunice was aiming for.
At that moment, in the White family's living room, the three brothers were sitting together.
Samuel ended his call, a cold, indifferent smile appearing on his face.
"Samuel, is it done? Will this All-Around Genius Competition really work?" Alex asked, frowning.
Samuel answered directly, "Why wouldn't it? It's the perfect excuse to scout for talent. I've already convinced the shareholders with legitimate reasons.
"As long as I hold the majority of the board's votes, even that mysterious new chairman and owner of Marlowe Group can't shut this project down."
This All-Around Genius Competition that everyone at Highcrest University is about to take part in—it's all orchestrated by the three White brothers.
And this time, they're determined to use the competition to teach Zoe a lesson she'll never forget.
