Among everyone there, Bruce's reaction was the most over the top.
He had never expected Zoe—back from a tiny village—to bring anything to the Evans family. He had planned to marry her off to some well-off, fitting match.
But now, Zoe's shocking talent and strength had already outshone every child he'd personally raised.
Bruce finally understood why Shawn favored Zoe. His eyes gleamed as he thought about it, and he found himself actually looking forward to what she'd do next.
"Zoe, Dad's really proud of your skills," Bruce said. "But don't push yourself too hard. Anytime you need help, just tell us. We'll back you all the way."
He was making it clear he was on Zoe's side.
Eunice, who'd already been unhappy that her brothers were protecting Zoe, turned livid when she saw Bruce was ready to be Zoe's pillar too.
She felt everything that should've been hers was being stolen by Zoe. She trembled with anger but couldn't do anything about it.
So she decided to hold back for now. Since Zoe had that power, Eunice would use Zoe's resources to grow stronger—and find a chance later to crush her.
With that in mind, Eunice put on a pitiful act and went up to Zoe. "Zoe, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have been so jealous and mean to you."
"Could you get me an invite to the Eminence Nexus next time?" she added, seizing the moment. "If I had one, I could help the Evans family shine too."
Seeing her so humble, her brothers felt sorry for her. Even though they knew Eunice had done wrong, they believed that apologizing was a good start.
Just as Sean was about to say something supportive, Zoe cut in coldly, "No. I can give invites to anyone—but not you."
She said it so decisively that everyone froze, speechless.
Eunice went pale. She hadn't expected Zoe to reject her plea and embarrass her in front of the whole family.
"Mom, why is Zoe treating me like this?" Eunice burst into tears and turned to Clara. "Why won't she forgive me? I've paid for what I did."
Eunice was smart—rather than clash with Zoe, she chose to cry to their mom, who adored her most.
Sure enough, the moment she saw her favorite daughter in tears, Clara snapped at Zoe, "Zoe, what's wrong with you? Eunice is your twin sister! Why can't you give her an invite?"
Eunice sobbed even harder. "Mom, Zoe just wants to be our family's only good daughter. That's fine. I know Zoe's always been scared I'd steal her spotlight. So I don't need the invite. As long as Zoe's happy, I'll give her everything she wants."
"I'll give her our brothers' love, Mom and Dad's love, and everything I have," she said, crying even louder, making everyone cringe.
Her brothers, seeing the once-proud Eunice reduced to this, felt a pang of pity.
Even Bruce spoke up, "We're family. Zoe, since you can get invites for your brothers to Eminence Nexus, why not give one to your sister? For my sake, if you have an extra in the future, please give it to Eunice."
His moral pressure made Zoe snort in cold amusement.
"The invites are mine. I give them to whoever I want. Even if you're my parents, you can't tell me otherwise," she said. "Even if I had an invite, I'd rather give it to a dog than to Eunice."
"I said I'd never forgive her—never!" Zoe finished haughtily and walked upstairs. She had no interest in pretending to be on good terms with Eunice.
Clara stayed in the doorway and unloaded a torrent of curses at Zoe. Then she stormed off, dragging her favorite daughter, Eunice, out for a walk to calm down.
Soon the only people left in the living room were Bruce and his five sons. Bruce rubbed his temples, exhausted by the family chaos. As his sons got up to leave, he stopped them and told them to sit back down on the couch.
Thinking back on his recent doubts about Zoe, Bruce looked at Sean and spoke in a serious, steady voice, "Sean, you're the oldest. Don't you feel like Zoe isn't really from some tiny village?"
Sean blinked at the sudden question, then said seriously, "Yes. She's too capable. I've never met a girl with such quick thinking."
"He already outshone me in business, even outdid you," Sean went on. "I just can't believe she'd never been near commerce before. That's why I've suspected she wasn't actually from a village."
Bruce nodded and turned to his other sons in turn.
Charlie said, "I watched Zoe's racing event. Only drivers with years—maybe a decade—of training have that much experience. She's still a teenager. If she really grew up in a little village, where did she learn such awesome driving skills? I'm really curious."
Herbert, eager to share, said, "I saw Zoe at the shooting range. Her shot looked off and weak, but she was actually aiming at Mr. Shawn Ludwig. If her real target was Shawn, that shot was terrifyingly precise."
"How is that possible?" Jacob said, shocked. He'd been there too, but didn't know much about guns, so he doubted Herbert.
Herbert replied, "Jacob, you know my instincts and my gun knowledge don't fail."
That was true, and Jacob fell silent.
When it came to computers, Jacob gave Zoe credit too. "I don't need to say much—her hacking skills speak for themselves. She's already beyond what I thought possible, almost like the hacker queen I admire most."
Gerald added, "Zoe won the All-Around Genius Competition purely on skill, not luck."
Bruce sank deep into thought. Hearing his five sons agree, he realized Zoe was shockingly powerful.
He stood with a stern look and asked, "Sean, what do you think is going on here?"
Sean hesitated, then said, "I'm afraid our intel was wrong. Zoe is way too talented to have grown up in a little village. She must have used some method to rewrite her past. Her history is probably made up."
