Thinking about how Shawn had defended her just now, a flicker of surprise passed through Zoe's eyes.
She watched as Shawn, accompanied by a team of well-trained soldiers, entered the research base.
He had just received the assignment to investigate the bombing and had rushed over. Upon hearing the researchers slandering Firefox, he instinctively spoke out in her defense.
All the researchers turned their eyes toward Shawn.
Both he and Zoe were adamant that Firefox had nothing to do with the incident—yet no one knew why they were so certain.
Zoe raised an eyebrow and shot a glance at Shawn. She had already denied being Firefox to him, so she didn't understand why he was so confident that the bombing wasn't her doing.
As Zoe quietly tried to figure out what Shawn was thinking, he once again spoke in a tone that left no room for argument. "I've encountered Firefox more than once. She always acts with integrity. She would never lower herself to something like this."
Since even Shawn had spoken up, the researchers had no choice but to drop the matter.
Still, Zoe couldn't hide her surprise. She and Shawn were enemies—she even wanted to kill him. She hadn't expected him not only to let that go but also to stand on her side.
Eventually, Shawn and Chase entered the secret archive room where the bomb had been planted. Using advanced technology, they began scanning for any signs of infiltration.
Soon, the team Shawn had sent to investigate Team Quiver reported back. Combined with the signs of a break-in at the archive room, they concluded that it was indeed Team Quiver who had planted the bomb at the research base.
Team Quiver was a large-scale terrorist organization currently targeting Shawn, the Clusia government, and the people of Clusia as a whole.
"According to intel, Team Quiver has already infiltrated Clusia. Until Mr. Ludwig drives them out, please make sure to stay safe," Chase told the researchers.
Once the crisis at the research base had been completely resolved, Shawn left the premises with Zoe.
Neither of them said a word during the ride. Shawn sat listening to Chase's analysis report, while Zoe silently pondered the mysterious and newly surfaced group—Team Quiver.
Just then, a car came roaring from the opposite direction and cut directly in front of Shawn's vehicle.
Because Shawn's car was specially designated and had a unique license plate, it was clear the other vehicle was targeting him specifically.
"Mr. Ludwig, I'll go check it out," Chase said as he opened the car door, ready to confront whoever dared to block Shawn's car.
Once the car came to a stop, three people quickly stepped out. As soon as Chase saw who it was, he immediately turned back and tapped on the car window.
Zoe rolled it down and heard Chase say, "Mrs. Ludwig, it's your brothers."
Zoe looked out the window and, sure enough, she saw Gerald running toward their car with Jacob and Herbert in tow.
She glanced at Shawn, who gave a small nod. She immediately got out and walked toward them.
Gerald grabbed Zoe by the shoulders and said loudly, "Zoe, something's wrong! Sean and Charlie are missing!"
Zoe frowned and asked, "You can't reach them through any method?"
"Sean and Charlie had gone out together for something," Jacob explained. "One moment they were on the phone with us, and the next, the call just dropped.
"I used my hacking skills to track the last signal from their phones, but when we got there, all we found were their phones and their abandoned car."
"There were bloodstains in the car," Herbert added, "and signs that the windows had been smashed. There's also no surveillance in the area."
Sean and Charlie had seemingly vanished into thin air. Jacob, Herbert, and Gerald were panicked and had found out Zoe was nearby, so they drove over to find her.
