Sean got slashed. He grunted, and his shirt was instantly soaked with blood.
Charlie's face turned pale. He'd never been in a situation like this, but he quickly grabbed a stick from the ground and swung it at the attacker's forehead.
The attacker fell to the ground right away. Charlie picked up his machete and used it as a weapon.
Sean, clutching his bleeding wound, said, "Charlie, just leave me. Run by yourself. I'm already hurt... It's too dangerous here. You can get away if you go alone."
"No! I can't leave you behind!" Charlie refused sharply.
Sean glanced at Charlie. His vision was getting blurry from the sudden blood loss.
But he still managed to pat Charlie's head with his bloody hand. "Charlie, I know you don't want to leave me, but this isn't the time to be stubborn. You need to escape and get help for me. Run! Before they catch up."
"No! If we're going, we're going together. I won't run alone!" Charlie insisted.
He could already see more attackers coming their way. If they didn't do something, they were all going to die.
"Sean, I'll take you with me. We stick together, no matter what," Charlie said.
Seeing how determined Charlie was, Sean knew they'd never get away if they kept arguing. So he gave in. "Alright, let's go together."
Charlie helped Sean up, and they started running in a different direction. At first, they were able to run pretty fast because Sean's wound was on his back, so it didn't really slow him down. But as time went on, things got worse.
Sean's back kept bleeding. His whole shirt was soaked in blood, and it looked really bad.
"Sean, we can't keep going like this. Let me bandage your wound." Charlie had to stop. If they didn't take care of Sean's injury, he'd bleed to death for sure.
"No! We can't stop. They're almost here. Keep running!" Sean insisted. Charlie had no choice but to go along.
But they were both hurt, and Sean was seriously injured. There was no way they could outrun the attackers. Soon, Sean started to get woozy and stumbled a few times, almost passing out.
"Get them! They're over there! Hurry up and catch them!" The attackers were closing in.
At that moment, Charlie was holding the machete, and Sean was lying on the ground. Both of them were exhausted.
"Sean, let's fight them!" As the attackers got closer, Charlie charged at them with the machete.
He could hold his own at first, but as more attackers came, he started to struggle. Soon, he and Sean were surrounded by a dozen of them.
Charlie was already covered in cuts. "Sean, we're really going to die this time, huh?" he said.
Sean was in worse shape. He'd lost a lot of blood, and his body was getting cold. Even without the attackers, he'd die from blood loss if he didn't get help soon.
Sean's eyes were unfocused. "Charlie, are you scared?"
"No! Even if we die, we can't bring shame to the Evans family!" Charlie shouted at the attackers, "Come on! We're not afraid of you!"
The attackers swung their sharp knives at them. Dozens of blades came flying at them.
Just as things looked really bad, they heard Zoe's cold voice. "You dare try to kill my brothers while I'm away? You've got some nerve!"
Sean, Charlie, and the attackers all froze. They turned around to see who was talking.
Not far away, Zoe was standing proudly on a huge rock, her long hair flowing in the wind. She looked at the thugs coldly, as if she were looking at a pile of corpses.
This scene made everyone there pause for a moment. Sean, who was ready to face death, and Charlie, who had collapsed on the ground from exhaustion, started talking in weak voices.
"Is that... Zoe?" Sean asked.
"Yeah, it's Zoe coming to save us!" Charlie said happily.
When Zoe saw Sean and Charlie's miserable state from a distance, she felt a burning rage.
"Go to hell!" Zoe roared, and with a quick step forward, she punched two thugs who were in her way. Her movements were fast and powerful.
The two thugs flew backward from the force and hit a tree branch, dying on the spot.
This was the fury of the mercenary king, Firefox. Anyone who dared to hurt her family was going to die.
Even Shawn, who had followed her here, didn't get a chance to fight. In just ten seconds, Zoe had taken out all the attackers with her sheer strength, one punch at a time.
Seeing this, Sean and Charlie's eyes widened in shock. Shawn's eyes, on the other hand, flashed with an odd emotion.
Shawn thought Zoe was truly the woman he had his eye on, shining brightly no matter when or where. She didn't even need his help and had easily taken care of the enemies herself.
At that moment, Zoe realized that things were definitely not as simple as they seemed.
While killing those thugs, Zoe had seen the logo of Team Quiver on their clothes. These guys were all from Team Quiver. But they were just ordinary people with poor fighting skills.
They were followers or, more like, expendables of Team Quiver. Overall, their purpose was just to buy some time.
Suddenly, cries for help came from not far away. A bunch of factory workers started gathering toward Zoe and the others, as if they were being driven there on purpose.
When the workers ran over, hundreds of more attackers followed, herding them into a circle like cattle.
Zoe had guessed it right. Those earlier attackers with weak skills were probably just bait to lure her and Shawn out and buy time for someone else. With the real members of Team Quiver, Sean and Charlie wouldn't have lasted this long.
If Zoe's guess was correct, the elite members of Team Quiver were already on their way. This was a trap, and those people were coming for her.
Zoe's eyes turned really dark and scary.
