Zoe and Shawn exchanged a quick glance, then shot off in opposite directions at lightning speed, splitting up without hesitation.
A deafening explosion rocked the spot they'd just left, blasting a massive crater into the ground.
But Zoe and Shawn skirted the very edge of the blast, rolling aside and hitting the dirt—completely unscathed.
Anyone else would've been blown to bits before they even realized what was happening. But it was like they had built-in danger radar, dodging every blast with ease.
"Damn, how are they still alive after that?" someone cursed.
"No biggie. Just herd them into the blast zone—no way they'll make it out this time," another sneered.
"Yeah, let's blow them into pieces," a third chimed in.
Then Team Quiver quickly came up with a plan: they'd surround Zoe and Shawn, box them in, and leave them nowhere to run. Once the bombs dropped, the two would be blown to pieces. It was a death trap, plain and simple.
But Zoe and Shawn were both seasoned veterans, with more than enough experience to see right through their little tricks.
Bombs rained down one after another, turning the ground into a mess of craters.
Working in perfect sync, Zoe and Shawn struck back, taking out their enemies and using their battlefield instincts to lure the rest straight into the danger zone.
In an instant, the Team Quiver squad was blown to smithereens—nothing left behind.
As for Zoe and Shawn, they always managed to slip out of the blast zone just before each bomb hit, never even singed.
One of Team Quiver's top dogs finally lost his cool and charged at Zoe, ready to take her out himself.
But Zoe was faster—she snapped her legs up, locked them around his neck in a scissor hold, and with a powerful twist, slammed him to the ground, snapping his neck. His crew recoiled in shock, stumbling back in fear.
"Damn, she's something else. She just survived an explosion, and she's still this tough..." someone said.
"Cut the crap. Shawn's woman was never going to be ordinary. We need to end this, fast," another barked.
"I'll do it. No way she's bulletproof—let's see if she can take a shot," one guy scoffed, grabbing his weapon and stepping up to attack Zoe again.
"Good luck, man," the others said, all taking a step back in unison.
Seeing his teammates chicken out, the reckless guy sneered, "You're all cowards. Let me show you how to take out Shawn's woman."
This guy was Johann, their infamous sharpshooter. He never missed—if he pulled the trigger, someone died. The only reason he hadn't acted before was that he never saw Zoe as a real threat. He and the others had been watching for a while now.
But somehow, just Zoe and Shawn had already wiped out nearly half their men. And Zoe? She'd even tried to use a stolen machine gun to blast the helicopter gunner with a rocket launcher out of the sky. She was absolutely fearless.
Meanwhile, Zoe took down two more enemies, the coldness in her eyes growing sharper. Shawn was just as fired up beside her.
The factory workers, huddled in the corners and already drowning in despair, saw everything unfold right before their eyes. Their mouths hung open, eyes blank with shock, as if they were so stunned they could barely breathe.
To them, it seemed Zoe and Shawn weren't human. Under that kind of relentless gunfire, they kept dodging death over and over—and even fought back. It was beyond belief. They were like living, breathing war machines.
"Do you guys think, with those two here, we actually have a shot at making it out alive?" someone finally blurted out.
"We have to, right? I honestly thought I was done for, but with them drawing all the fire, we're actually safer than before," another replied, clinging to hope.
"Yeah, we might not be able to escape yet, but at least for now, we're safe," someone else added.
"God, please, let those two pull off a miracle. That's the only way we're getting home in one piece," another prayed quietly.
To regular people, watching Zoe and Shawn go up against Team Quiver was like witnessing gods descend to earth. It was so far beyond anything they could understand that all they could do was pray for a miracle.
But deep down, none of them really believed Zoe and Shawn could turn the tide. The gap between them and Team Quiver—in numbers, weapons, and sheer force—was just too huge. The odds were stacked against Zoe and Shawn—overwhelmingly so.
"Let's see how many of my bullets you can handle," Johann sneered, leveling his gun at Zoe and taking aim.
As the bullets whizzed toward her, Zoe dodged on pure instinct. With her other hand, she snatched up a weapon, loaded it in a flash, and fired—her bullet colliding with Johann's in mid-air, knocking both off course.
Johann raised an eyebrow. 'Impressive. There aren't many people in the world who can keep up with my speed. Looks like she's no ordinary person—she's almost as fierce as the legendary Firefox.'
A grin twisted Johann's face. "You're making this fun, sweetheart. You've brought out the real me. Let's see how you handle my Superfast Gun, version 10.0."
He squeezed the trigger a few times, and more than a dozen bullets flew out, way more than he'd actually fired.
Johann thought, his chin lifting in a smug half-smile, 'This baby spits out bullets faster than you can blink. And all you've got is a regular piece. No way you're stopping this bullet storm. Unless you're Firefox, there was no way you'll survive.'
But just as Johann was gloating, head held high, his confidence shattered in an instant. His eyes widened in sheer disbelief as he saw something that seemed impossible.
Zoe's lips twitched into a faint, almost predatory smirk. She raised her gun, aimed at one of the incoming bullets, and fired. The crack of her gun echoed through the air as her bullet struck one of Johann's mid-flight.
Then, in a blur of motion, her bullet ricocheted off the first, sending it spinning wildly. With a series of sharp, metallic pings, it deflected several more bullets in quick succession. One shot had taken out three bullets in a single move.
Zoe kept firing, each shot intercepting multiple rounds. In her hands, the ordinary pistol seemed to transform into something far more powerful. It was as if she'd unlocked its full potential on the spot. This was beyond anything a normal person could achieve.
Johann's mind raced. He remembered hearing about this move—something only the legendary mercenary queen, Firefox, could pull off. But to him, this woman was just Shawn's ordinary girlfriend—it didn't make sense.
"C-Could she be—" Johann figured she might be Firefox and almost blurted out his suspicion right there in front of everyone.
