They huddled around Zoe in a tearful group hug, sobbing intensely. Watching this, even the soldiers found their eyes welling up, each suddenly reminded of their own siblings back home.
Zoe thought her brothers would let go once they had cried it out, but to her surprise, they just kept going. Five minutes passed, and they still showed no sign of stopping.
Finally reaching her limit, Zoe couldn't take it anymore and forcefully shook them off.
The boys were all stunned.
Seeing them looking at her with those sympathetic looks, Zoe clenched her fists and said, "Stop crying, all of you!" She just felt so awkward.
Seeing Zoe speak with such vigor, the boys wiped away their tears and broke into joyful smiles.
"I'm calling home and telling them that Zoe is alive."
"I'll have the kitchen whip up Zoe's favorite dishes."
"Well, I'll help Zoe clean her room after we go home."
"Come on, Zoe, let's go home together."
After a long round of doting chatter, they reached out their hands to Zoe.
Zoe looked at those five big hands stretched out to her, not quite sure what to say. She just felt unexpectedly touched deep inside.
Shawn came over and guided Zoe toward her brothers. "Go home with them. Don't worry, I can handle this on my own."
Zoe glanced at Shawn, her eyes lingering on him for a moment. She thought, 'Is this what having a family feels like? Well, that feels pretty good.'
"Alright, let's go home," Zoe said calmly, looking at her brothers.
"Great!" the boys cheered excitedly.
Back at home, Zoe barely had a moment for herself as her brothers kept showing her their love for her. They cleaned her room and made her coffee, making sure she was doing okay.
If Zoe hadn't politely turned them down now and then, they probably wouldn't have given her any peace at all.
"Where is she? Where is Zoe?" Bruce burst in, breathless and disheveled. His anxious expression made it clear he had hurried back as soon as he heard.
Zoe had just come downstairs after showering and changing.
Bruce rushed up to Zoe and gave her a careful once-over. Seeing she was perfectly fine, he burst out laughing. "I'm so proud of you. You made it out of such danger."
Bruce was so overjoyed that he reached out to hug Zoe, but the latter dodged to the side quickly, leaving him hugging empty space.
However, Bruce wasn't mad at all. After all, Zoe's return meant the glory of the Evans family wasn't over yet.
And since she and Shawn survived danger together, their relationship must be solid. Bruce thought that the Evans family and the Ludwig family were now deeply connected.
Beyond all these benefits, Bruce also recognized Zoe's extraordinary capabilities. He thought, 'Zoe grew up away from home, yet she's more capable than any of them. Perhaps the future of the Evans family would rest entirely on her.'
Just as Bruce and the boys were clustered around Zoe, peppering her with questions about what she had been through lately, Eunice returned from shopping with Clara.
Trying to win over Bruce and the boys, she had specially bought them gifts. She said with a smile, "Guys, look what I got for you."
Just as Eunice wanted to show off the presents she bought, she was stunned to see Zoe who was supposed to be dead right there at home, surrounded by Bruce and the boys.
"Zoe, try this. It's delicious."
"Have some milk. I bought it early this morning."
The boys kept fussing over Zoe, not even noticing what Eunice was saying. Furious, Eunice ripped apart the bags in her hands.
Clara also noticed Zoe. She said under gritted teeth, "She's quite hard to kill, isn't she? Isn't she supposed to be dead? What's she doing here?"
Eunice realized that Bruce and her brothers had firmly taken Zoe's side and that there was no way she could ever get them to turn against Zoe.
Eunice knew Clara was the only person she could count on in this family, so she quickly grabbed her arm and started sobbing.
She said, "I'm so glad Zoe is alive, but somehow, I just feel a little sad. I'm worried that from now on, they will only pay attention to her and forget about me."
