Zoe curled her lips into a charming smile. She didn't answer, while Shawn narrowed his eyes.
Before Shawn could speak, Zoe reached up, hooked her arms around his neck, and pulled him into a dominant kiss. Her actions were her answer.
Just as things were heating up between them, a group of soldiers hiding in the corner whipped out their phones and started snapping away, with knowing grins as they tried to capture every moment.
Shawn swiftly moved Zoe aside, his expression turning stern as he shot a glare at the group of soldiers. The soldiers erupted in playful cheers and teasing whistles.
"Chase?" Shawn said in a deep voice.
Chase rubbed his nose sheepishly and stepped out from the crowd. "Don't be mad, Shawn.
"We're all young, hot-blooded men here, and most of us don't even have girlfriends. With you giving us this live demonstration, of course, we want to learn a thing or two—maybe we'll finally figure out how to find girlfriends ourselves."
"Yeah, Shawn. We wanna fall in love too," the soldiers chimed in unison.
"Enough," Shawn barked, grabbing Zoe's hand and swiftly leading her away.
Seeing Shawn's ears turn red, even Zoe couldn't help but chuckle, forgetting her original intention. 'So the fearless legendary warrior was actually so easily embarrassed,' she thought, amused.
This was a side of him she'd never seen before, not even during their confrontations on the battlefield. 'But his bashful side is actually kind of adorable,' Zoe mused.
Shawn led Zoe straight to his quarters. It was her first time inside—and just like Shawn himself, everything was in perfect military order.
"Shawn, you brought me to your room. Are you planning some special thing with me?" Zoe deliberately perched on Shawn's bed, leaning back with a provocative smirk.
Shawn kept his composure the whole time. He was utterly unfazed by Zoe's deliberate teasing.
Zoe couldn't hide her disappointment. She teased, "Honestly, I thought you were going to do something totally against your precious principles. How boring."
"What exactly do you want me to do to you?" Shawn materialized before Zoe, his voice low and dangerous. His overwhelming presence made Zoe instinctively go on alert.
It was a silent clash of auras between two alphas. Zoe locked eyes with Shawn, and Shawn held her gaze. In that moment, they were utterly alone.
A moment later, Shawn suddenly bent down, planting both hands on the bed frame and caging Zoe in the confined space between his arms.
Zoe stared at Shawn. No, if anything, he was like a panther ready to strike, graceful yet dangerous.
"You're tempting me," Zoe said, licking her parched lips. Now she finally understood Medusa's point. With a rare catch like Shawn, it'd be such a waste not to have a taste.
Just as Zoe was about to turn the tables and take advantage of Shawn, his phone suddenly buzzed insistently. Beep. Beep. Beep.
Zoe arched a brow. The next instant, as Shawn answered the call, he casually wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her close.
Her entire back pressed against his solid, warm chest as she felt the steady, powerful rhythm of his heartbeat. For a moment, Zoe found the steady thump of his heart rather comforting.
"What?" Whatever the caller said, Shawn's tone instantly turned grave. Zoe instantly pulled back from his embrace and looked up at him.
"Now that the antique has resurfaced, inform the Ludwig family to bid on it. We must not let Clusia's cultural relics end up overseas again. Since you can't make the decision, I'll speak to Grandpa myself." With that, Shawn hung up.
"What's wrong?" Zoe asked.
Shawn explained, "Over the years, as Clusia has grown stronger, many of its national treasures have gradually been recovered by patriotic individuals.
"Today, there's a major auction in Clusia, and among the items up for public sale is a cultural relic over three thousand years old."
Zoe understood immediately. "So you want the Ludwig family to bid at the auction?"
