The moment the crisis hit, Troy had no time for anything else. True to his training under Shawn, he flung his phone out the window without hesitation to keep the car steady.
A bullet slammed into the car.
Seeing the bullets kept whizzing past, Zoe realized this wasn't a random ambush. The attackers had come fully prepared. By tracing the bullets' path, Zoe instantly pinpointed the enemy's location. "Three o'clock!" she called out.
Hearing this, Troy instantly jerked the steering wheel hard, swerving onto a side road. No more bullets struck the car.
Zoe thought, 'As expected. But it is only a matter of time before their pursuers catch up.'
"Zoe, what the hell is going on?" Troy demanded.
Zoe's expression darkened. She pondered, 'So, someone knows I survived. Now they're coming back to finish the job again. But this isn't as dangerous as last time, I won't be trapped so easily.'
Bullets came flying at them again, even more relentlessly than before.
Zoe pondered, 'So far, we still haven't spotted the enemy's vehicle. It is a clear sign that the attackers know this terrain intimately. Otherwise, there is no way they could stay hidden and keep firing.'
"Hard left!" she barked.
Troy snapped, "Are you out of your mind? They're shooting at us from behind! If we make a U-turn, we'll be facing them head-on. That'll shatter the windshield. We'll be sitting ducks."
Just then, a bullet smashed through the rear window. Glass exploded in a shower of shards.
Zoe ducked down sharply, barely avoiding the bullet.
Troy's face paled. With no time to judge if Zoe was right or wrong, he simply did as she said, wrenching the steering wheel hard and spinning the car around to face their attackers head-on.
He thought, 'Too bad we don't have any weapons. Otherwise, we wouldn't be so passive right now.'
"Floor it!" Zoe commanded.
At this point, Troy's mind went blank. He could only obey Zoe's commands.
The engine roared violently as Troy's car shot forward like an arrow. The enemy's car didn't have time to react, and the driver instinctively jerked the steering wheel to the side.
Meanwhile, Zoe somehow produced a bottle of water, rolled down the window, and hurled it at the enemy's car.
The bottle smashed into the windshield with incredible force, exploding in a spray of water and glass shards. The windshield exploded into a thousand pieces.
Troy was stunned with disbelief, his jaw dropping at the impossible sight. He thought, 'The force behind that throw is even more devastating than a bullet. That move demands insane wrist strength, grip, aim, and control. Yet Zoe made it look effortless.'
The attackers unleashed a full barrage of fire, targeting both the windshield and all four tires. They were trying to force Troy's car to a stop.
Zoe had already braced herself. The instant the tire blew out, she flung the door open and bailed out.
All at once, a hail of bullets sprayed into the car.
Troy ducked low to dodge the bullets. The moment he saw Zoe escape so effortlessly, he fumed. He complained inside, 'Damn it! How did she get away that easily? Couldn't she at least have given me a heads-up before bailing out?'
After rolling to break her fall, Zoe seized the moment as the enemy's car stopped, charging straight at it against all odds.
Her counterintuitive move left both Troy and the attackers dumbfounded. After all, any normal person would've run for their life the moment things got dangerous. They didn't expect Zoe to run straight into danger like that.
One of the attackers barked, "Aim at her, now! Fire!" The deafening gunshots roared.
Troy pressed himself flat in the car, his heart pounding with each blast. He thought, 'Damn, did Zoe just get riddled with bullets out there? How am I supposed to explain this to Shawn if this goes on?
'No. Maybe if Zoe dies, Shawn can finally be with Sophia. In that case, Zoe would actually be doing them a favor, playing matchmaker from beyond the grave.'
