After Troy parked the car, Zoe made her way to the auction by herself. She sent a message to the organizer, letting them know she'd be attending.
Upon seeing the message, the organizer instantly called Zoe back. Although Zoe found it a hassle, she still answered the call, knowing it was necessary.
"It's an honor to have you here, Kestrel. We'll come to meet you at the entrance right away," the organizer offered excitedly.
"No need. I'll find my way in," Zoe said. With that, she hung up.
The organizer instructed security to open the VIP entrance and sent Zoe the location pin.
However, Zoe paid no attention to the organizer's arrangements. She simply scanned her QR code invitation and walked right into the auction hall.
Every auction attendee was allowed to bring one companion. While everyone else arrived with a date, some with men, others with women, Zoe was the only one unaccompanied, making her stand out like a sore thumb.
Meanwhile, Eunice and Clara had already arrived at the auction hall ahead of time. They were mingling with the city's elite. Thanks to Eunice's position at Marlowe Group, they were making quite an impression and had already made plenty of friends.
Just as Eunice and Clara were enjoying the evening's pleasant atmosphere, Eunice happened to catch a glimpse of Zoe out of the corner of her eye.
She frowned and thought, 'That Zoe is deliberately snubbing me. I invited her and she claimed she was too busy, yet here she is, showing up on her own. What a two-faced fake.'
Eunice walked over to Zoe and said, "Zoe, you're here too? I was just about to call you, but your phone was off the whole time."
All the Evans brothers had shown up as well, and at that moment, they were all standing together with Zoe.
Eunice noticed that as soon as her brothers showed up, they instantly drew the attention of numerous socialites in the venue. Eager to expand her social connections, Eunice deliberately put on her brightest smile and greeted, "What brings you here tonight?"
To her surprise, the five Evans brothers barely acknowledged Eunice with a nod before crowding around Zoe again, chatting and laughing with her as if Eunice wasn't even there.
At the sight, Eunice's smile nearly faltered. She thought, 'Back then, they only had eyes for me. But now, they all care about Zoe.'
Noticing that several socialites were already getting ready to approach Zoe, Eunice complained inside, 'This was supposed to be my moment to shine. Zoe takes all my brothers away from me.
'In their eyes, I was no longer their once-beloved sister.' Burning with heartbreak, jealousy, and rage, Eunice wished she could just strangle Zoe right here and now.
Just then, her phone buzzed. She unlocked her phone and saw a message sent by the group admin in the auction group's chat.
The message read: [Kestrel will be attending tonight's auction! Stay tuned!]
The message sent the group chat into a frenzy.
Herbert was so excited that he let out a whistle. He thought, 'Today, I will finally get to see a masterpiece by Kestrel. This has to be the most perfect work of art.'
Eunice shot Zoe a challenging look and said, "Zoe, see that? Kestrel is coming to the auction tonight. Who was it that said he wouldn't show up? Eating your words now, aren't you?"
Clara chimed in, "With that big mouth of hers, she's all talk and no substance. As if she could know someone like Kestrel. Eunice, you must find a way to get Kestrel to take you on as his apprentice later.
"That'll open up more opportunities for you. Don't be like some people who rely on underhanded means to get ahead."
Zoe remained unfazed by Clara's constant veiled jabs.
Zoe's indifference only made Clara and Eunice even more furious. It was like hitting a pillow; all their blows landed soft and ineffective, leaving them even more frustrated.
Bruce and the Evans brothers were taken aback by Eunice and Clara's words.
Charlie asked, "Zoe, do you know Kestrel?"
Eunice spoke up, "Earlier, Zoe told Mom and me that Kestrel wouldn't show up today. If she didn't even know him, how could she be so certain?
