"Zoe, hurry up and go. We'll cover for you here," Eunice urged, her voice dripping with false concern.
At this point, even Bruce and the Evans brothers also doubted Zoe could afford that much and wanted to talk her out of it.
The two transactions totaled 260 million dollars. No one in their right mind believed Zoe could cover such an astronomical sum.
Just then, the payment processor arrived.
To everyone's surprise, Zoe produced her bank card.
Clara couldn't help but mutter scornfully, "Cut the act! I bet that card only has the 66 million they just checked."
Eunice eyed the card and asked with feigned concern, "Zoe, is this your card or Shawn's? If it's his, you'd better give him a call first. We surely wouldn't want any drama if there's a misunderstanding."
"Eunice, don't act recklessly!" her brothers couldn't help but shout.
By now, no one believed a young woman like Zoe could possess such a fortune. They thought, 'Even with the Ludwig family backing Zoe, Shawn isn't even in charge yet. Could he really authorize such a staggering sum?'
The payment processor respectfully took Zoe's bank card and immediately processed the payment.
A foreigner couldn't help but shout, "If she's that rich, let's see just how rich she is!"
"Yeah, come on, let's see just how loaded she is!" someone chimed in.
As the jeers grew louder, more and more people joined in the commotion. The chaos once again drew the attention of the auction manager.
As the manager approached, he stated authoritatively, "This lady's card has already been pre-approved. The fact that we haven't stopped her from bidding indicates that the balance in her account far exceeds the 260 million dollar threshold."
Hearing this, the onlookers wondered, 'Over 260 million dollars? Just how much fortune could there be in that account?'
The manager bowed respectfully to Zoe and said, "Distinguished guest, we sincerely apologize for startling you. As a token of our apology, our auction house will waive all commission and tax fees for your payment."
The onlookers thought, 'The taxes and fees of 260 million are no small sum. What could make the auction manager extend such courtesies to Zoe?'
With suspicion, someone challenged, "You're not colluding, are you? We demand to see her actual balance."
Another chimed in, "I wondered if that card is even hers?"
Anyone paying attention would notice that all those raising objections were foreign merchants. They were deliberately here to stir up trouble.
Zoe remained silent.
Eunice, thinking Zoe was losing her nerve, spoke up with hidden motives, "Hey, don't talk about my sister like that! I'm sure this card is hers. Zoe, why don't you show everyone your bank balance? That'll shut them up for good."
Zoe shot Eunice a look, thinking, 'Seems the last lesson didn't sink in. She's still trying every trick in the book to frame me.'
Seeing Zoe remain silent, Eunice's suspicions only deepened. She thought, 'She must be hiding something. That card must be Shawn's.' She continued, "Zoe, go ahead and show them. I know you've got what it takes."
"Ms. Evans, what do you think?" the manager asked as he looked at Zoe awkwardly.
The crowd shouted, "Show us the balance! No shady deals!" Their words leveled accusations of collusion between Zoe and the auction house.
Under mounting pressure, the manager shot Zoe a pleading look, silently begging her to make a decision.
"Granted," Zoe replied coolly.
Her response sounded like divine salvation to the manager. He immediately thanked Zoe profusely, then swiped her card through the reader right in front of everyone.
The card reader beeped sharply as the transaction processed. As the exact amount was projected onto the big screen, everyone in the room froze as if the ground had opened beneath them. Utterly speechless, their eyes bulging and jaws slack with shock.
Some even stretched out their fingers, pointing at the astronomical figure on the screen and counting the digits one by one in disbelief. He muttered, "Ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, millions, billions. Is this real?"
Someone in the crowd gasped. His voice trembled as he shouted in shock, "That is 3 billion dollars!"
