Everyone was completely stunned. This was all because Zoe had just sent some mysterious text messages moments ago.
They thought, 'Could this really be connected to Zoe? Could it be that Zoe actually knows Kestrel, the legendary weapons design master?'
Soon enough, however, everyone dismissed the thought. It was simply impossible.
The fact that the organizer received Kestrel's reply right after Zoe sent her text must have been pure coincidence.
Even after figuring things out, Clara still couldn't contain herself. Clutching her handbag, she stormed up to the organizer and demanded, "What? You promised it would work. How dare you back out now? You took 10 million dollars from me."
She even blurted out her private dealings right in front of everyone.
Bruce's face instantly darkened. He thought, 'That damn woman secretly blew 10 million behind my back.
'When the hell did she do that? Damn it!'
Meanwhile, Clara refused to back down. She demanded an explanation from the organizer. 'But why would I spit out what's already in my pocket?' the organizer thought.
The organizer said, "You were the one who forced the money on me!" the organizer snapped. "I never guaranteed you'd get to meet Kestrel. What's this all about? Is this how the Evans family operates?"
The organizer denied all responsibility, publicly putting the Evans family at the center of public attention. If they insisted on pursuing the matter, they'd only come across as petty.
Clara was about to say more when Bruce cut her off firmly. "Enough. This ends here."
But Clara refused to accept defeat. What frustrated her most was that Zoe had actually been right about Kestrel—she just couldn't stomach it.
Clara, not daring to confront Bruce, immediately turned on Zoe and shrieked accusingly, "It's you! You're the one who jinxed this whole thing and cost Eunice this opportunity."
Eunice stood frozen, staring blankly at all this, still struggling to process what had just happened.
'How could Zoe know Kestrel wouldn't take any disciples?' Eunice wondered in disbelief. 'Could she actually know Kestrel? No way! Impossible!'
Kestrel is the world's foremost weaponsmith, rarely making public appearances—for ambitious factions across nations all covet his support and his weapons.
Eunice thought, 'Sure, Zoe may have spent some time overseas and even seen combat, but she's just nobody. How could someone like her possibly have access to a legend like Kestrel? She's not even Firefox, Queen of Mercenaries.'
Clara shrieked, "Zoe, you're nothing but a bitch. Get out of here now. I bet Kestrel left suddenly because he couldn't stand the sight of you."
After Clara finished speaking, she felt even more convinced she was right.
So, her words grew even more venomous. Clara snapped, "I've got it all figured out. Kestrel was going to take on a disciple, but when he saw you bidding on the weapon and thought you weren't worthy, he stormed off in disgust.
"Zoe, what on earth do we owe you? Do you really have to bring such bad luck to the Evans family? Eunice would've been Kestrel's disciple by now if it weren't for you!"
"Zoe, is that really true?" Eunice said with feigned hurt in her voice. "If you don't want me to outshine you, you could've just told me. I wouldn't hold it against you!"
Led by the mother-daughter duo, the crowd actually started believing that Eunice had scared Kestrel away.
"Get the hell out of here! You're not welcome!" the crowd shouted angrily.
"We came here to see Kestrel, but this woman made him so angry he left. What the hell is this?"
"Jinx! Get the hell out of here!"
Many who'd come hoping to see Kestrel blamed Zoe for ruining their chance.
Someone pushed forward and demanded of the auction organizer, "Did she drive Kestrel away? If she leaves, will he come back?"
When questioned, the organizer looked completely at a loss. He scratched his head awkwardly and stammered, "Kestrel didn't say anything, but...w-well...it's possible!"
At these words, the crowd eagerly awaiting Kestrel erupted in excitement.
Especially Clara, who jabbed her finger at Zoe's nose and shrieked, "Did you hear that? Kestrel left because of you. You're nothing but a jinx. Why do you always have to ruin Eunice's future?"
"Zoe, I'll admit you're better than me," Eunice pleaded with feigned vulnerability. "But could you please stop holding me back?"
