At this point, even Bruce couldn't hold back. He sighed and said, "Zoe, maybe you should leave for now, to avoid provoking everyone further."
The five brothers' hearts ached for Zoe. They longed to speak up for her, yet words failed them. The conflict in their gazes revealed the turmoil within.
Zoe didn't want to make things difficult for her brothers, nor did she want to get dragged into more drama with Clara and Eunice.
Zoe just felt a chill seeping into her heart. The irrational accusations and baseless slander from this crowd sent an unprecedented chill through Zoe's heart.
Zoe let out a cold, mocking laugh.
Zoe was about to turn and leave without another word. In that split second, a voice suddenly boomed through the crowd for all to hear. "Kestrel!"
The moment that shout rang out, the crowd erupted into chaos, everyone craning their necks and looking around like headless chickens. They thought, 'Where's Kestrel? Could he be here already?'
Zoe's gaze turned icy. Just then, the shouting man suddenly pushed through the crowd and marched straight up to Zoe.
He rubbed his eyes in disbelief, then studied Zoe intently.
In an instant, the man cried out to Zoe, "Kestrel, it's really you. I've finally met you. Please, bestow one of your weapons upon me. I'll pay any price, please."
The venue fell into dead silence as the man appeared.
The entire crowd froze in shock, utterly stunned and speechless. Overwhelming disbelief filled their eyes.
They thought, 'No way! This jinxed woman everyone despised. She is rumored to have been brought back to the Evans family from a small town. Could Zoe really be Kestrel?
'No way! How could Kestrel possibly be a young, beautiful woman? The Evans family's notorious good-for-nothing heiress? This is absolutely unbelievable.'
Just as the entire room fell into stunned silence, someone suddenly let out a piercing scream.
This was like a signal, sending a jolt through everyone in the room.
The scream sent shockwaves through the crowd, triggering a domino effect that had almost everyone shouting in hysterics.
"Kestrel? She's Kestrel?"
"No way!"
"That's impossible!"
"Is this guy a plant or something?" someone in the crowd shouted.
Gasps of shock and scoffing disbelief clashed in equal measure.
Clara was the first to react. Still looking shocked, she was already lashing out angrily. "Are you all crazy? She's just my daughter. Even if she managed to cozy up to the Ludwig family, there's no way she could be Kestrel!"
Hearing Clara's words, Eunice instantly snapped out of her shock and regained her composure.
Eunice jabbed a finger at the man and sneered, "I know you. You've had dealings with my sister before. Did she pay you off to put on this little act here?
"You've lost your damn mind! Do you even know who Kestrel—a living legend—is? As if she could ever impersonate someone like that. Your lies are downright laughable!"
With the Evans family themselves turning against Zoe and denouncing her, the onlookers found the whole thing completely ridiculous.
"I must be out of my mind. I actually believed it. How could she possibly be Kestrel?"
"I heard Kestrel is some fifty-something geezer. No way it's her!"
"She's a fraud!" someone in the crowd shouted.
More and more people in the crowd started calling Zoe a fraud, their voices rising with each passing second. The rest of the crowd erupted in chaos, joining the jeering and shouting.
"Yeah, that's right! I heard Kestrel is a guy. There's no way it's her!"
"If a mere kid can be a weapons master, then what does that make us? Are we just the dumbest of the dumb—not even worth a kid's level?"
"Get this troublemaker out of here. She's making a complete fool of herself."
"If I had a daughter like that, I'd disown her immediately!" someone in the crowd sneered.
As the crowd's accusations against Zoe grew louder, Eunice felt a surge of confidence.
'Maybe this is my chance to finish Zoe off for good,' Eunice schemed inwardly.
Eunice turned to Zoe with a look of feigned concern and urged, "Zoe, you should apologize now. You've really made everyone angry.
"Everyone, I'm so sorry. Let me apologize on Zoe's behalf. She's just a bit too attention-seeking and ended up making this whole spectacle. Please, don't be too hard on her."
