"Seriously, Zoe, you kept this from us for so long. Don't you see us as family?" Jacob said, his voice tinged with hurt.
Herbert looked at Zoe expectantly. "If I'd known you made the weapons, why would I have begged Dad to bid for one at the auction? Just make one for me, Zoe."
Sean cleared his throat and shot his brothers a stern look. "Calm down. We're still in public. Save it for home."
Gerald immediately let go of her arm. He couldn't help but look at Zoe with newfound admiration. She wasn't just strong—she was outstanding in every way. Gerald thought, 'She really is the pride of the Evans family.'
Sean had just said he wouldn't ask Zoe any questions, but the moment he stood in front of her, he couldn't help blurting out, "Zoe, seriously, how on earth did you become Kestrel?"
"Come on, Sean, that's so sneaky!" the younger brothers couldn't help but grumble when they heard his question.
Zoe didn't answer. Instead, her gaze sharpened as she scanned the crowd.
Others might not have noticed, but Zoe did. There was a chilling, unmistakable murderous intent locked onto her.
Whoever it was, they were strong. Only someone truly formidable could make her feel this kind of pressure.
Zoe thought, 'So, one of these people is an enemy. But what exactly are they after?'
Zoe's silence was driving her brothers crazy with curiosity.
Charlie, even the devoted fanboy, grabbed Zoe's arm and blurted out, "Zoe, quit keeping us in suspense. Tell us already. How did you become Kestrel? Were you born a genius or something?"
Zoe abruptly jerked her arm free from Charlie's grip, the movement rough and impatient.
Charlie was startled. 'Did I just bring up something painful for Zoe?' he wondered.
Thinking about everything she'd been through, Charlie's heart ached for her.
Zoe'd been on her own since she was a child, even risking her life as cannon fodder on the battlefield just for a bite to eat. Maybe she learned to make weapons because she was captured and forced into labor.
The mere thought of it brought tears to Charlie's eyes. He said softly, "Zoe, I won't ask anymore, okay? Don't be upset. You're home now and this is your safe haven, and we're the family who loves you most."
"Right, Zoe! From now on, whatever you need, just come to us brothers. We'll help you no matter what."
Reminded by Charlie's words, the brothers all came to their senses and began comforting Zoe one after another.
"The auction's over. Let's go," Zoe said. She had no intention of discussing her identity as Kestrel, especially not here, where it wasn't safe.
The Evans family was over the moon about Zoe's newly revealed identity. Everyone was buzzing with excitement at the thought of leaving.
"Let's go! Right now!" one of the brothers urged.
"We're heading home for brisket to celebrate!" another chimed in.
"Brisket? We should go for fine dining. Kestrel is our little sister, after all!" someone else exclaimed.
The brothers were already chattering away, imagining how they'd show off Zoe to their friends.
At that moment, Bruce had regained his composure, but seeing Clara so lost and distraught made him cringe with embarrassment.
He hauled her up himself and handed her off to their sons. "Take her away," he ordered.
As for Eunice, no matter how much she hated admitting it, she still had to leave with the rest of the family.
'Again,' Eunice thought bitterly, 'Zoe's brilliance overshadowed me once more. Why does the world need Zoe when it already has me? God, you're so cruel.'
The Evans family left the auction venue together.
The auction manager and other sycophants hoping to curry favor with Zoe all beamed obsequiously as they escorted the family outside, practically ready to roll out the red carpet for them.
The Evans family split into two cars—Bruce took Clara, Herbert, Jacob, and Eunice in one vehicle.
Meanwhile, Sean got behind the wheel of another car, ready to take his younger siblings with him.
Sean called out urgently, "Zoe, get in!"
Charlie added from the backseat, "Come sit with me, Zoe!"
With Sean and Charlie calling from the car, Zoe turned to Gerald and said, "Gerald, take the family and go first."
Gerald, his voice steady but alert, immediately asked, "Did something happen? You need to tell us what's going on."
Zoe met Gerald's gaze, her voice low. "Someone's got their eyes on me—or rather, on what I'm carrying."
