"That's outrageous! Stop her!"
"Don't let her go! She's so arrogant!"
"She totally disregards us. How could Shawn end up with such an insolent brat?"
"She really pisses me off."
The elders cursed her as they beat their chests and ordered their men to stop Zoe.
But nobody could stop Zoe when she wanted to leave.
Those who tried to stop her were tossed before the elders like sandbags. Clearly, Zoe was provoking and challenging the elders.
Seeing a dozen men sprawling on the ground, the elders were livid.
An elder thought, 'Damn girl. Is she trying to start a war with us?
'If we don't show our true strength, that insolent girl may look down on us.'
Zoe strode off, and Troy ran after her immediately.
Troy kept up with Zoe and said, "Honestly, Zoe, you were awesome back there.
"But as Shawn's men, I've gotten to say you got both him and yourself in trouble."
Zoe didn't care about it.
She thought, 'If they dare lay a finger on my family, I'll make them pay in blood.'
Sophia had eyes inside the army.
When the elders returned to the army with their men, news of their failed attempt to persuade Zoe and how she'd turned the tables by openly provoking them spread quickly.
Upon receiving the news, Sophia wasted no time visiting the elders with expensive gifts.
When Sophia arrived, Rick was plotting against Zoe with his old buddies.
From the moment Zoe didn't listen to them and dropped the hammer on them, the elders had already marked her as their sworn enemy.
They would use every means to drive her away, or even make her disappear forever.
"Everyone, I truly appreciate what you've done for me. Please allow me to express my gratitude with these humble gifts." At that very moment, Sophia made her entrance.
"Look! How sweet Sophia is!"
"What a good girl! Shawn must be blind!"
"We must not allow Shawn to end up with that insolent brat."
"Shawn's hot-headed. Make enemies easily. Without us backing him up, you think he'd be where he is today?"
"Indeed! Without us backing him up, and with that cocky woman by his side, his career is dead in the water."
Rick said, "Shawn is a promising talent. We can't let that insolent woman ruin his future. I'd be very obliged if you'd do me a favor and help him out."
Sophia was so glad the elders were all on her side. But she affected a look of concern and said sadly, "Sorry, everyone. It's all my fault. You stood up for me, only to end up being humiliated by Zoe.
"I feel so guilty about this," Sophia choked out, with trembling lips and tears glistening in her eyes. "If only I had been stronger, none of this would have happened."
As tears streamed down Sophia's cheeks, the elders felt as if their hearts were nearly broken.
They practically watched Sophia grow up, due to their good relationship with Rick.
Now their little darling was wronged. They had to avenge her.
A hot-tempered elder slammed the table and bellowed, "Fine! Since Shawn disregarded our advice, let him learn the hard way who is really good for him."
"Damn right! We must get justice for Sophia!" One of the elders shouted angrily.
"If Sophia isn't good enough for him, who the hell does Shawn think he deserves?"
"Time to teach these young hotheads some rules."
'Great! The elders are all on my side', Sophia thought.
'Zoe, you just blew up a hornet's nest and pissed everyone off. Now let's see how you clean up the mess.'
Seeing that everyone had made their stand, Rick called Sophia to his side and patted her on the back. "Rest assured. With us backing you up, Shawn's fiancée has to be you!"
"Thank you, Rick. Thank you, everyone," said Sophia earnestly.
"But I may have crossed some lines because I love Shawn so much. The Ludwig family and Shawn might assume the worst about me now.
"I'm afraid they won't accept me," Sophia said softly, sniffing.
Everyone's heart skipped a beat at the same time.
"Don't worry, Sophia," one of the elders said. "Should Shawn wrong you, he'll answer to us all!"
Sophia wiped her tears and choked out, "Zoe is really something. She's always pestering Shawn, and no one knows what she did in secret. I heard-"
Sophia deliberately stopped in mid-sentence, then cried even more.
Seeing her crying, the elders were nervous. "What did you hear? Just tell us. You're driving us crazy."
"Sophia must be bullied by that brat again."
"Damn brat! I thought she was just barking. It turns out she's played a little trick too."
Without bothering to get the facts straight, the elders were completely fooled by Sophia's look, convinced she was the victim.
And this was exactly what Sophia wanted.
With tears streaming down her face, Sophia sobbed, "Don't be mad, everyone. It was none of Shawn's business. He's always been so kind to me, never yelled at me. That's all..."
Sophia stopped in the mid-sentence and burst into tears again.
Everyone's hearts ached as they thought of innocent Sophia being bullied by Zoe. They longed to tear Zoe to pieces.
"Outrageous!" Baron rose up at once.
All eyes turned to him.
He was the mastermind here.
"Baron, have you got a plan?"
Baron surveyed the group and said thoughtfully, "That girl is indeed something.
"No fear in her eyes under all this pressure. She is either insanely strong or has some hidden talents. Either way, we can't afford to be reckless."
Baron doted on Sophia the most, owing to his longstanding alliance with Rick.
He wouldn't be able to stand by and watch his best friend's grandchild being bullied like this.
Baron thought, 'I've made up my mind. The matter is my business now.'
With tears streaming down her face, Sophia threw herself into Baron's arms.
"Thank you so much! You're so great to me," said Sophia, sobbing.
"Sophia, that's not fair! I adore you as well," an elder protested.
"Yeah, we all adore you!" the other one agreed.
Not to be outdone, the others all scrambled to make nice with Sophia.
Sophia wiped away her tears and smiled at them, making the elders' hearts sing.
One by one, they all promised to avenge Sophia.
Sophia was a dab at honeyed words, while Zoe's icy face just pissed people off. No wonder everyone favored Sophia.
The elders were all rubbing their hands, awaiting their chance to teach Zoe a lesson.
Eunice hung up the phone, a hint of a sinister smile playing on her lips.
Eunice thought viciously, 'I can finally take Zoe down.
'This time, I won't fail!
'I'm sure to be successful.
'Zoe is dead meat.'
Just then she heard some sounds coming from downstairs.
Then came Clara's voice, "Zoe, where have you been? Out on a date with Shawn?"
Eunice hurried downstairs and exclaimed, "Zoe, you're back! Are you tired? Would you like some coffee?"
