Clara gently reassured Zoe, "Don't be afraid, Zoe. With your dad and Sean in charge of the company, no one would target us. And if anything does happen, we can always seek help from the Ludwig family."
Eunice was stunned.
She thought, 'It's so weird.
'Mom and Dad were supposed to curse Zoe,
'but Clara just comforted her.'
"Mom, do you understand me? Zoe might get us in big trouble again," Eunice snapped. "Remember all of us nearly died last time because of her?"
"Zoe, is something wrong? Just tell us now. We can be prepared in advance," Bruce asked, his voice full of concern rather than anger.
Sean looked at Zoe eagerly and said, "Zoe, if anything happens, you must tell me. Whatever it takes, I'll help you."
"That's right! We're family. We will stick with you through thick and thin," Charlie chimed in.
The others also said they were willing to stick with Zoe through thick and thin.
Eunice was fuming as she thought, 'Can't they hear my voice?
'I hate Zoe so badly. Why does everyone adore her?
'Give me a reason!'
With anticipation, Eunice looked at Clara, who was her last hope in this family.
She desperately wished Clara could understand her and finally came around.
But Clara smiled and said, "Zoe, don't frighten us. You're going to marry Shawn. Who dares go after our company?
"You'd better pay more visits to the Ludwigs and tell them about our troubles."
"That's right," Bruce chimed in. "You're going to marry into the Ludwig family one day, but we're your family. It would be good for you if we could get stronger.
"So if the Ludwig family has good projects, remember to give us a heads-up."
Bruce and Clara took turns urging Zoe to take advantage of her connection with the Ludwig family and bring more benefit to the Evans family.
But Zoe turned them down flat. She said firmly, "If you really want to cooperate with the Ludwig family, then improve the strength of your company. If you're good enough, you'll naturally stand out when bidding for their projects."
"Zoe, you're right," Clara persisted, "but it would save us a lot of effort if we could use your connection with the Ludwig family. The Ludwig family will respect you if you have a strong family background."
What Clara wanted was to secure a better future for the Evans family.
Her intentions were good, but she was barking up the wrong tree. The next moment, Zoe thrust the credit card back into her hand, impassive.
Clara looked taken aback.
Zoe said coldly, "I learned one thing in the world growing up: you got to be strong to succeed. You can only rely on yourself. After all, you can't live off others forever. "
With that, Zoe turned on her heel and went upstairs, leaving the Evans family stunned in the living room.
Her brothers thought what Zoe said was all right and felt sorry for what she suffered.
Clearly, Zoe clawed her way through life alone.
Overwhelmed with guilt and shame, they thought, 'How could we ask Zoe to sacrifice more for the family after all she's been through?'
"So rude!" Clara fumed. "I'm doing it all for the family. Am I wrong? Now she's already putting on airs."
Bruce's face also darkened with displeasure. He thought, 'My company may not be as large as the Ludwigs family's, but it runs well.
'With the Ludwig family's backing, it could grow much faster and stronger. That's why I gave my consent to their marriage.'
