Many partners stormed into Marlowe Group's offices and demanded accountability. Some of the leaked information involved classified information.
There should be not only fines to the leaker, but also criminal punishment.
Until the leak source was identified, the head of Marlowe Group was legally liable for the data breach.
Realizing the gravity of what happened, Emmett immediately called Zoe.
Just then, Zoe was about to go see Shawn.
Shawn had finally finished his work and was looking forward to some quality time alone with Zoe, but all his plans were ruined by Emmett's call.
"What's wrong?" Zoe knew Emmett would not disturb her if it were not important. So there must be something seriously wrong with the company.
Once Zoe answered the call, Emmett said urgently, "Ms. Evans, emergency! Someone leaked confidential information and several partners are bleeding money.
"They called you to account. This has gone way beyond compensation. They need to see the culprit and our solution."
Upon hearing this, Zoe said coolly, "I got it. I'm on my way."
Zoe was about to head out when she bumped into Eunice.
Eunice knew exactly what had happened, but she looked surprised and asked, "Zoe, why are you in such a hurry?"
Without answering her, Zoe grabbed her car keys and headed out.
Clara walked over and asked, "Is she going on a date?"
"Looks like something's wrong with the company," Eunice said.
Clara had a sudden idea. "Oh right! I forget Zoe is the Chairwoman of Marlowe Group.
"If we could just partner with Marlowe Group, it would definitely take our business to a whole new level."
Eunice gritted her teeth and thought, 'Clara thinks highly of Zoe now. Whatever Zoe did was right.
'And I fought like hell to join Marlowe Group, only to end up as their court jester.'
Eunice sneered, "Even though Zoe sits on the board, I heard she's just a figurehead—the real boss calls all the shots."
"I wondered how Zoe made it onto the board. Maybe she was simply a fall guy for her boss?"
"A fall guy for her boss?" Clara frowned in confusion.
Bruce also heard what she said and said, "Eunice, do you know something?"
Eunice sneered, "We all know who Zoe is. There's no way she knows the real boss behind Marlowe Group. Even if she did, why on earth would they let her run the company?
"I fear that she's just a scapegoat. If anything goes wrong at Marlowe Group, all the blame will fall on her."
"What? Absolutely not! If that's the case, she can't stay at Marlowe Group any longer. She'll drag us down," Clara objected immediately.
Originally, Bruce thought that Zoe might bring Marlowe Group and the Evans family together. But now he hesitated.
He thought, 'I'm taking no chances. Better have Zoe withdraw from Marlowe Group immediately, before she drags the whole family down.'
"Eunice, you work at Marlowe Group too. Go keep an eye on Zoe right away. If anything happens to her, let us know immediately," Clara urged anxiously. She worried that Zoe would bring trouble to the family.
Eunice thought to herself, 'The shitstorm of Marlowe Group is just getting started. Let's see how Zoe handles this mess!'
Instead of heading straight to the company, Eunice slipped away to see someone, who was an infamous smuggler in Jelonsburg.
His smuggling inventory is insane. There was nothing beyond his reach.
The smuggler agreed to see Eunice because a mystery man introduced her.
When the mystery man learned Eunice was targeting Zoe, he asked the smuggler to provide whatever she needed instead of stopping her.
Despite the excitement, Eunice wondered, 'Does this mystery man also have a grudge against Zoe?
'Screw it! I'm going to destroy Zoe and leave her in complete disgrace. I'll make everyone in Evans family look down on her.'
In the darkness, Eunice was a bit nervous. She had no idea why the smuggler chose to meet in such a dark underground parking lot.
"You're the one who wanted to see me?" A man's voice cut through the darkness just as Eunice waited anxiously. She couldn't see clearly his features. All that was visible was the intermittent glow of his cigarette.
Eunice asked cautiously, "So you're Phillip?"
Phillip leaned in with a smirk. "Yeah, I'm Phillip. What do you want to smug?"
"No, I want you to make a deal with Marlowe Group."
Hearing this, Phillip chuckled. "Marlowe Group? It's a big company. Many big shots in Clusia are involved. And you want me to do business with them? Are you joking?"
"Get Marlowe Group involved in this mess and taint their reputation. I promise you can make good money."
"Good money? How much? Can you pay?" Phillip sneered, his tone mocking. "Girl, didn't your family ever warn you not to mess with dangerous men? You could've been killed." Phillip didn't take Eunice's words seriously.
Eunice slowly took out an envelope. "I may not have so much money," she said coolly, "but Marlowe Group does."
Eunice said steadily, "Make Marlowe Group your money laundering hub. I'm sure you'd love to accept it, with all that dirty cash you're sitting on.
"Honestly, apart from the Ludwig and White families, only Marlowe Group can swallow such a massive sum at once." Eunice's words finally caught Phillip's attention.
"Girl, watch your mouth," Phillip threatened.
"Believe it or not, I can set up a channel for you. Your money will look like charity work when it comes out from Marlowe Group," Eunice said.
Phillip did have some money he desperately needed to launder, but the government of Clusia had been cracking down hard on financial crimes lately. Eunice's proposal was a godsend.
But Phillip played it cool, showing no sign of urgency. Now it was Eunice who felt worried.
Eunice had made up her mind. There was no way she would back down now.
Eunice forced herself to calmness, waiting calmly.
"Fine! You've got yourself a deal. When do we start?" Phillip was taken aback by her composure, so he compromised in the end.
Eunice breathed a silent sigh of relief. Eunice thought to herself, 'Looks like the mystery man really knows Phillip well, so he told her to stay composed.'
Eunice wasted no time taking out the contract she got from a senior executive at the company and pushed Phillip to sign it.
Once Phillip signed this contract, he could openly transfer tons of money into Marlowe Group's account.
All Eunice wanted was simple: the money flew in, but never out.
Phillip growled, "Don't mess with me. I don't want any losses, or you and your whole family will pay for it!"
"Don't worry, you won't," Eunice said and strode away with the contract.
As soon as Eunice got in the car, her lips curled into a sinister smile.
'It's showtime now,' she thought to herself.
