Sophia pouted with a hurt expression, "All the girls Shawn likes are so strong. Am I just too weak to win his heart?"
Rick's heart ached to see Sophia on the verge of tears. After all, she was his beloved junior. He couldn't let her be bullied. He gently comforted her. "Don't be so hard on yourself. Every child from the White family is kind-hearted and virtuous.
"Unlike Zoe. Even if her sister made a mistake, there was no need to arrest her in public and completely ruin her, body and soul. She's just naturally this ruthless. Someone like her should never be allowed into the Ludwig family."
Sophia immediately agreed, "You're absolutely right. Someone like her can't stay by Shawn's side; otherwise, she'll definitely hurt him." Then she pressed anxiously, "But how can we get Zoe away from Shawn?"
"Whoever hates her the most right now is gonna be the best person to get back at her," Rick said.
Sophia feigned hesitation. "Isn't this... inappropriate? After all, they're..."
With an air of confidence, Rick said, "Eagles don't catch flies. Besides, Zoe has sown the seeds of her own misfortune. We're just giving it a little nudge."
"Got it. For Shawn's sake, I won't hold back this time."
Rick said with a reassuring smile, "Good girl. Once you do this, Shawn will be grateful to you."
After Zoe left the White family's party, Rory and his men immediately agreed her in a secluded spot.
Rory said, his voice tight with anger, "Your Majesty, we're sorry you had to endure such humiliation. There are just too many blind fools in Jelonsburg. Shall we take care of them for you?"
Faced with Rory's offer to intervene, Zoe shook her head in calm refusal.
"Why are you letting them push you around like this? In the past, you would've retaliated. When did you ever have to just put up with it?" Rory blurted out, baffled. He didn't know why Zoe was so hesitant.
"Mind your own business. I have my own plans," Zoe responded coldly.
Rory didn't dare press further. "Let us escort you back to the hotel to rest, Your Majesty."
"No need. My ride's here," Zoe said, spotting a Jeep approaching in the distance.
Rory and his men immediately boarded their vehicle and drove off.
The Jeep pulled up in front of Zoe.
Shawn stepped out of the vehicle in one fluid motion, his long strides carrying him toward Zoe. The evening breeze tousled his short hair as his eyes gleamed with a dangerous intensity.
Before Zoe could even blink, Shawn yanked her into a tight hug, one arm wrapped around her waist and the other holding the back of her head. "Why didn't you tell me?" he said, his voice tight. "Do you think I can't take care of you or something?"
Zoe joked, "Those online rumors are still buzzing. Aren't you worried someone might catch a pic of us together and label me as your 'dangerous lady'?"
"Not even close," Shawn said coolly.
Zoe's eyes twinkled with mischief as she listened. She slid her arms around his neck, leaned in super close—like, their lips were almost touching—and then froze, all playful-like. "Hey," she whispered, "am I not charming enough? Or not dangerous enough?"
"It's because I don't have enough power and influence that you don't trust me," Shawn growled. He abruptly scooped Zoe into his arms and captured her lips in a searing, possessive kiss.
They shared a quick kiss and then pulled apart. A flicker of anger smoldered in Shawn's eyes.
Zoe said nonchalantly, "I'm no delicate flower needing your protection. I can handle this myself." She shot him a teasing look. "As for you—good thing you didn't lose your uniform because of me, right?"
Zoe's teasing did little to improve Shawn's mood. Without a word, he scooped her up and deposited her in the car.
Zoe let Shawn buckle her seatbelt and teased, "So, where are you taking me?"
