Within moments, hurried footsteps echoed from upstairs as all of Zoe's brothers came rushing down to welcome her. Bruce wasn't home, but someone had already notified him of her return.
Sean looked at Zoe, words failing him as guilt washed over his face.
Charlie stepped forward and said, "Zoe, I always knew you were framed. But don't blame us. There was nothing we could do in that situation."
Zoe said gently, "I don't blame you guys."
"I knew you'd be the understanding one," he said with a relieved smile.
At that moment, Clara finally snapped out of her daze and clutched Zoe's wrist tightly. "Please, Zoe, save Eunice. She knows she was wrong. Let her go, I'm begging you," she pleaded desperately.
Zoe hadn't expected Clara to still be so concerned about Eunice. She couldn't help but think to herself, 'What a touching mother-daughter bond.'
Sean gently pulled Clara away. "Mom, didn't we agree? This time, let Eunice serve her time and truly reflect on her mistakes."
Zoe turned to her five brothers, her gaze sharp. "So, you're all here to plead for her, too?"
Charlie was the first to speak up. "Eunice has gone way too far this time. Besides, the mess she's in is beyond our control. She's on her own."
"Eunice should stay in there and seriously reflect on her actions," Herbert added. "Otherwise, who knows which one of us she might harm next?"
Jacob said nothing, though his conflicted expression betrayed his desire to defend Eunice. After all, she was a family.
Gerald said with a straight face, "Anyone who does wrong should be punished. Eunice got what she deserved." As for Sean, he had already made his stance clear earlier.
Clara, furious that none of her sons would take her side, flew into a rage. "I've raised you boys for nothing. Are you just going to abandon your sister?"
"Mom, please calm down," Sean said gently.
Clara wouldn't listen. She pointed at Zoe and screamed hysterically, "You. Ever since you came back, you've thrown our family into utter chaos. It's all your fault. You've turned our lives upside down." Then she shrieked, "Get out! Just get out."
As Clara's hysterical shouting escalated, Bruce rushed in. "Enough!" he roared, striding over and slapping her across the face. "Have you lost your mind? Eunice reaped what she sowed. This is your failure as a mother. What does this have to do with Zoe?"
Then he barked at his sons, "Why are you just standing there? Take your mother upstairs. Don't let her humiliate us any further."
Under Bruce's stern command, the Evans brothers didn't dare hesitate. They immediately escorted Clara away.
Once things finally quieted down, Bruce turned to Zoe and Shawn with a strained smile. "What brings you two back together? Shawn, sorry you had to see that disgraceful scene. Just ignore that madwoman." He gestured. "Come, have a seat."
Shawn was about to sit down when Zoe stopped him with a hand on his arm. "I'm safely home now," she said firmly. "You should head back."
Shawn glanced at Zoe. He didn't want her to face her family alone.
Zoe flashed Shawn a playful smile. "Alright, can't bear to leave, huh? I'll treat you to dinner next time. This family drama is no place for you."
After pushing Shawn out the door and shutting it firmly, Zoe turned to Bruce with a frosty expression. "I'm just here to grab some belongings. I'll be staying elsewhere these days."
Bruce walked up to Zoe and said softly, "You were wronged, but that incident happened so suddenly that we couldn't help but believe it at the time."
"The Evans family's honor is indeed important," Zoe said bluntly. "But I'm afraid that if I'm framed and slandered again, you'll just cast me aside, Father." Her words were so direct that Bruce was left unable to respond with empty pleasantries.
