Shawn said, "I saw you take out your phone just now. Were you texting someone? It's time to switch to airplane mode."
Zoe immediately replied, "I'm turning it off right now."
It seemed Shawn hadn't seen the group chat messages—otherwise, he wouldn't be asking about it so casually. Zoe let out a long sigh of relief.
Lately, her relationship with Shawn had progressed so quickly that she kept forgetting to stay on guard around him.
That was a bad habit—one that could expose her identity at any moment. She resolved to be more cautious from now on.
With that thought in mind, Zoe quickly powered off her phone. From now on, she definitely wouldn't dare to mess with her phone in front of Shawn again.
Merilunia's exclusive district was a place where luxury, crime, and danger all came together.
Here, the wealthy could indulge in the most extravagant pleasures the world had to offer. At the same time, the lowest rungs of society were populated by filthy criminals who would stop at nothing just to survive.
Opportunity and peril walked hand in hand in this district. That was exactly why it was called exclusive district.
The upcoming international reception was set to be held in the most opulent building here—the Universal Tower.
The name alone—Universal Tower—spoke volumes of the building's luxury. The reception had invited top figures from nations all over the world. As the legendary warrior of Clusia, Shawn was, of course, among the guests.
Though the reception was scheduled to take place in three days, most of the invitees would arrive early. After all, the exclusive district offered the rare chance to experience ultimate indulgence—something few could pass up.
As representatives of Clusia, Shawn and Zoe were given suites on the topmost floors of the tower—an obvious gesture of respect toward Clusia.
Once the two had settled into their respective rooms, Shawn knocked on Zoe's door.
"Care to go shopping together?" Shawn asked, taking the initiative.
Zoe raised a brow. "Since when did you get so bored that you'd invite me out shopping?"
"You don't want to go?" Shawn asked.
"Of course I want to go. Why wouldn't I?" Zoe replied, accepting right away.
"But I need to take a shower and change first. Want to come in and wait?" she said, deliberately tugging on his collar and pulling him closer.
Most men wouldn't be able to resist such a straightforward invitation. But Shawn wasn't like most men. He pushed Zoe's mischievous hands away.
"I'll wait outside," he said calmly.
"Lame." Zoe muttered with a pout, turning to shut the door.
But before she could close it, Shawn stepped in behind her in a flash and pinned her against the wall.
"Seems like you're very unsatisfied with how your boyfriend reacted," he said with a teasing smile.
Zoe, pressed against the wall, chuckled. "That's right. A normal man might not pounce right away, but he'd at least give some kind of reaction."
She let out a dramatic sigh. "Looks like I have zero appeal to you."
"You little fox, you're playing with fire," Shawn whispered in her ear.
That phrase—"little fox"—was laced with all the desire and restraint he was trying to keep in check.
Zoe's heart skipped a beat when she heard it. She didn't understand why he would call her that—and even began to wonder if he had somehow discovered she was Firefox.
But Shawn quickly stepped back and let her go. "Don't try those seductive tricks again. I'm still a man. I held back this time—next time, I might not."
With that, he turned and walked out to wait in the hallway.
Zoe let out a sigh of relief and touched her burning cheeks.
Still, thinking back to Shawn's sudden ambush just now, she found it surprisingly thrilling—almost addictive.
No wonder so many men and women loved the thrill of a passionate push-and-pull. That taste of tension really did spike one's adrenaline.
