After spitting her threats at Zoe, Aileen turned her gaze back to Shawn.
"If you really care about her, come to me now," she said coldly. "Maybe then I'll let her walk away in one piece. Otherwise—"
Before she could finish, Zoe grabbed Shawn by the collar, yanked him close, and kissed him right there in front of everyone.
It was a bold kiss—more of a statement than a gesture of affection. It was territorial, a declaration that this man belongs to me.
Shawn's eyes flashed with surprise at first, but he quickly turned the tables and deepened the kiss. The two of them became completely absorbed in each other, locking lips with an intensity that left everyone blushing—everyone except Aileen.
Aileen exploded in rage. "Damn it! Someone get them apart. I'll pay 300 thousand dollars to anyone who separates them."
Money talked, and some men would die for it. A few onlookers who had been hanging around the edges suddenly lunged forward, ready to take on Zoe for a shot at the cash—completely ignoring how dangerous she was.
Seeing this, Aileen smirked with satisfaction. "Listen up! Beat that woman to a pulp. If you impress me, I won't stop at 300 thousand—I'll pay 3 million."
Tempted by the enormous bounty, more and more people threw themselves at Zoe.
In an instant, over a dozen people charged in, foolishly thinking they could overpower her. Zoe shoved Shawn out of harm's way and, with a single high kick, sent the first two attackers flying.
The rest kept coming, screaming and flailing. But compared to Aileen's personal guards, these guys were a joke. Zoe barely had to lift a finger—one strike each and they dropped like flies, moaning on the ground.
Aileen, finally realizing she had messed with the wrong woman, decided to cut her losses. She grabbed her two friends and snuck out of the store while Zoe was still cleaning house.
But she wasn't done yet. Shawn was just her type, and she couldn't give him up.
Once she got back home, the first thing Aileen did was summon Jake, her personal head of security.
"The bodyguards you assigned to me are trash, Jake. Total trash!" she exploded the second he walked in. "They got wrecked by a woman. Do you have any idea how humiliating that was for me?"
Jake frowned. "That's impossible. The men I gave you are elite—retired mercenaries with better skills and combat records than most active-duty soldiers. No civilian could've taken them down."
"Save it," Aileen snapped. "The fact is they got their asses handed to them. If you don't believe me, go ask them yourself. I've never been this embarrassed in my life."
After venting, she finally got to the point. "You claim your team's good at digging into people's backgrounds. Fine. I want you to investigate two people—find out exactly who they are and where they come from."
Jake, eager to make up for his failure, didn't dare refuse. As soon as Aileen sent him the photos of Shawn and Zoe, he dispatched his best trackers.
But that wasn't the end of it. "One more thing," Aileen added with a venomous sneer. "Don't touch the man. But that woman—if you ever see her again, kill her. No hesitation."
Jake nodded. "Understood."
Aileen chuckled coldly. "That bitch... she'll learn what happens to people who cross me."
Meanwhile, after the whole Aileen incident, neither Shawn nor Zoe was in the mood to keep shopping.
"I think you'd better start wearing a mask from now on," Zoe joked. "That face of yours is nothing but trouble."
To her surprise, Shawn nodded without hesitation. "Then you should wear one too."
"Why? I'm nowhere near as popular as you are," Zoe protested.
Shawn looked at her intently. "To me, you're the most attractive woman in the world. I get annoyed whenever someone else looks at you."
