Seeing that Shawn had clearly made up his mind, Zoe was suddenly in the mood to tease him.
"Well, since you're staying... why don't we take a bath together?" she said, deliberately glancing at the bathroom in the room.
The only thing separating the bathroom from the rest of the suite was a glass wall. If someone bathed inside, the person outside could see everything clearly.
Shawn stood ramrod straight, expression unchanged. "No need."
"Really? You sure? The setup here makes bathing very... convenient." Zoe tugged lightly at Shawn's sleeve, her coy expression as tempting as a girl in love.
Shawn knew she was teasing him on purpose. If he really said yes, she'd probably bolt immediately.
"No," he replied.
"Then go wait outside. I don't like being watched while I shower," Zoe said, using it as an excuse to gently push Shawn out of the room.
Shawn remained standing at the door for a long while, not moving. This scene just so happened to be witnessed by Rick and the others. They were furious, feeling that Shawn's behavior was undignified and a disgrace to them all.
But Shawn stayed there for one reason only: to ensure Zoe's safety. Zoe, however, wasn't the least bit concerned.
She was Firefox—there was no one in this world who could kill her. Even if someone dared to make a move inside the Universal Tower, she could handle it with ease.
Meanwhile, Jake hurriedly handed a document to Aileen. "This is their identity information, Ms. Carleton."
Aileen was currently staying in a seaside castle, living like a true princess. Her room was massive and extravagantly decorated—only former royalty could afford to live in such luxury.
She glanced at the report and first saw Shawn's file.
"So he's the legendary Shawn Ludwig from Clusia?" she murmured. "No wonder he has a demeanor that's nothing like other men."
Aileen gazed obsessively at the photo of Shawn in his battle uniform, clearly enamored. She looked like she was about to kiss the picture.
After reining in her excitement, she turned to Zoe's file.
"What? That woman acted so high and mighty—I thought she was someone important," Aileen scoffed. "Turns out she's just from some second-rate family. How disappointing."
Still, finding out that Zoe was just an ordinary person delighted Aileen.
If Zoe had been someone with real status, Aileen might have had to tread carefully. But if Zoe was just a girl from an unremarkable background, then killing her wouldn't be a big deal at all.
"Jake, this is the woman who humiliated your men in public. What are you going to do about it?" Aileen asked, clearly hoping he would help her regain her pride.
After investigating both Zoe and Shawn, Jake had a good idea of what had happened. His subordinates had described Zoe as extremely dangerous, but he didn't believe them. He assumed they were exaggerating.
"Don't worry, Ms. Carleton. Leave everything to me," Jake said. "I'll make sure you get your revenge."
"I want her dead," Aileen said coldly.
Jake hesitated for a moment at those words.
But Aileen didn't notice—she was already fantasizing. "Before that, I'm going to the international reception.
"She said I could never steal her man? Well then—I'll make Shawn mine right there at the reception. I'll make her a laughingstock in front of the whole world."
The mere thought of it made her smile with delight.
Jake, on the other hand, wasn't nearly as optimistic. He knew exactly how capable his men were. If what they'd said was true, Zoe wasn't going to be easy to deal with.
He needed to be prepared.
After her shower, Zoe got ready for bed. She had no idea that Shawn was standing guard right outside her door.
