Zoe walked over to the injured man and glanced at Shawn. "Should we find out who sent them?" she asked, seeking his opinion.
Shawn said coldly, "No need to ask. It must be that spoiled brat."
Zoe was surprised. "Are you really that sure? I think it might be someone else."
Shawn slapped the nearly unconscious man hard, jolting him awake. "Answer my questions truthfully," he demanded.
Seeing Shawn hit him, the man was terrified and tried to run. Since he was closest to the window, he dove right out in panic.
With a scream, the man nearly plunged from the window. But Shawn reacted instantly, grabbing his arm just in time.
In sheer terror, the man instinctively screamed, "Help!"
Shawn pressed, his voice icy. "If you want to live, start talking. Why did you try to kill us?"
"We were just following orders. I-It was our boss who made us do it," the man stammered.
The man was now dangling precariously outside the window, held only by Shawn's grip. One slip and he'd be smashed. Shawn even deliberately loosened his hold for a split second, sending the man into a full-blown panic that made him shriek.
Zoe watched amusedly from the side. She never imagined the legendary warrior could be such a prankster.
"Who's your boss?" Shawn demanded.
"It's... It's Jake," the man blurted out, spilling everything in terror. "He used to lead our mercenary group and then started a security firm. We're all bodyguards working for him now, but sometimes we take on assassin missions too."
For an unknown nobody to try and assassinate such a high-profile international figure—that was just asking for death.
Zoe made a mental note of the name Jake and then helped Shawn haul the man back inside.
Zoe turned to Shawn and asked, "How are you going to deal with these three?"
"Let hotel security handle it," Shawn said.
"No, please! Let us go!" the man begged frantically. His two companions were still unconscious and couldn't even plead for themselves.
Zoe thought it was a good idea. She immediately pressed the intercom to brief security. In less than five minutes, personnel arrived and took the three assassins away.
Seeing the trouble was resolved and Shawn about to leave, Zoe abruptly pulled him back inside and said, "You're right. It's way too dangerous here. I need protection. You should stay the night."
Shawn said, "No problem. I'll make do on the couch—" Before he could finish, Zoe shoved him onto the bed.
Shawn looked at Zoe, his expression unreadable. "You're playing with fire," he warned.
"You're wrong," Zoe said with a playful smirk. "I'm playing with you." Without hesitation, she lay down beside Shawn and pulled the covers over them both.
Shawn lay awake, eyes wide open, thinking, 'So she literally just meant sleep.'
Dressed provocatively, Eunice strode straight into the Universal Tower.
The Universal Tower was a true playground for the rich. It did more than offer rooms; it was a place for everything. One could enter with proper identification.
Eunice used her membership card for an ID scan. After the system approved it, she took the elevator to the exclusive club on the fifth floor.
This place was a den of debauchery. People came here to drown in liquor, indulge in carnal pleasures, and even conduct shady dealings.
But it was a lawless paradise. So long as one had money, they could come in and spend it however they wanted. No one would stop them.
Eunice breezed right through the entrance scanner and stepped into the lavish interior of the exclusive club without a hitch.
Inside, a sea of men and women were lost in wild revelry.
They were drinking and dancing wildly, and some couples, completely unabashed, even started making out in full public view.
The moment Eunice appeared, she was immediately swarmed by several men.
A man swaggered over and gave Eunice's backside a slap. "My gorgeous Venus, you finally showed up. We've all missed you," he said.
That suggestive gesture made it obvious they were more than just acquaintances.
A flicker of disgust flashed in Eunice's eyes, but she put on a polite smile. "I'm here to see Mr. Gardner," she said.
"Oh, looking for Francis? He's over there flirting with a hottie," the man said with a grin.
Eunice followed the gaze and saw Francis making out with a woman. Things were heating up fast. Before it turned into a public spectacle, Eunice strode right over.
Eunice pouted, putting on her most coquettish act, "Francis, this is unfair. You called me all the way here, only to flirt with another woman right in front of me? You're breaking my heart."
Men loved women who acted coquettish. They wanted to feel desired, but not smothered by jealousy.
Eunice perfectly balanced jealousy with coquetry, making Francis feel cherished while letting him play freely.
"Come on, babe, are you mad? Don't be. You know you're my number one," Francis teased, pulling Eunice over so the three of them could join in the fun together.
Eunice hated every moment of this, but she had no choice.
Sophia had schemed to send her to this den of crime. Here, people fell into only two categories: the untouchable elite at the top and the dregs of society at the bottom.
Eunice arrived here with nothing. Refusing to remain at the bottom, she was determined to claw her way up. But in this world, the only path upward was to rely on powerful men.
The place was crawling with wealthy men, all sharing the same trait—they were all lecherous.
Confident in her looks and cunning, Eunice quickly rose from the bottom to become a wealthy man's mistress. Francis was her current sugar daddy.
But this was only temporary. The man she truly needed to cozy up to was someone above Frank—Merilunia's richest heir. Only then could she use his influence to bring Zoe down.
Sophia had made it clear. If Eunice wanted revenge, she'd have to rely on herself. She was determined to rise to the top, no matter what. One day, she'd crush Zoe beneath her feet.
Francis noticed Eunice spacing out and slapped her hard across the face. "Focus!"
Eunice quickly showed a flattering smile, her voice dripping with sweetness. "I was just trying to figure out how to make you happy."
"Humph, you better be. Otherwise, forget about me introducing you to that big shot," snorted Francis.
Eunice tried harder to please Gavin. She acted like a fawning dog, begging for scraps and wagging her tail.
She choked down every humiliation in silence, blaming all her misfortunes on Zoe. In her mind, Zoe had become her sworn enemy.
After getting his fill, Francis flung Eunice onto the floor. As he put on his clothes, he said coldly, "The person you want to meet will be here soon.
"Use that slutty body of yours to please him. Help me close this deal, and I'll make sure you get what you want."
Shawn said coldly, "No need to ask. It must be that spoiled brat."
