Eunice dreaded most of all going back to prison. That place was full of deranged women.
They acted perfectly normal in public, but the moment they were out of sight of guards and security cameras, they'd torment any inmate who happened to be pretty.
Eunice's beauty made her a constant target for those vicious inmates. Time and again, she narrowly escaped having her face ruined.
If Eunice hadn't learned some self-defense, there was no way she would've made it out in one piece before Sophia came to bail her out.
Eunice loathed Zoe, but she had no patience for Sophia either—a rat always lurking in the shadows and scheming to make her the scapegoat. Eunice had seen through all her tricks long ago.
Eunice thought coldly, 'But now isn't the best time to break ties with Sophia. Once I eliminate Zoe—my biggest threat—then it'll be Sophia's turn. Every single person who brought me to this point will pay dearly.'
"I understand. I'll prove my worth, but I need a few days to prepare first," Eunice said.
Sophia instantly snapped, "A few more days? Do you think opportunities just fall into your lap? The international reception is over, and they could be heading back any minute. I can't give you much time."
Eunice replied calmly, "I understand, but the time you've given me is too short. Even if I want to leverage my connections, I still need time to approach powerful people. Otherwise, it's all just empty talk."
Sophia knew Eunice was right. She'd only sent Eunice here less than ten days ago, and for her to have established herself at all was already impressive. If she wanted to curry favor with people of higher status, she would indeed need patience and time.
After thinking it through, Sophia said firmly, "Ten days is the absolute limit I can hold them here."
"Ten days is enough," Eunice said confidently. Soon, she would be meeting a shadow syndicate leader in these elite circles.
Rumor had it that this big shot had some unconventional tastes. Most women wouldn't dare go near him, since one wrong move could get them killed. But Eunice had no choice.
'This man wields immense power. Once I get in with him, neither Zoe nor Sophia will stand in my way. There's a good chance I'll be the one who ends up with Shawn,' she thought.
"Fine, I'll be waiting for your good news," Sophia said, hanging up.
As Sophia smirked in triumph, little did she know that the very prey she thought she controlled was waiting for the perfect moment to devour her.
Shawn and Zoe lingered at the party a while longer, hoping to savor the luxury of this exclusive event. But just as they were settling in, Aileen swaggered over with a wine glass in hand, a whole entourage trailing behind her.
"Well, what a coincidence. If it isn't Shawn, the legendary warrior of Clusia," Aileen said with a playful smirk, her eyes fixed solely on Shawn while pointedly ignoring Zoe standing beside him.
Zoe's eyes glinted as she remained silent, waiting to watch the show unfold.
Shawn knew Zoe wasn't about to help. Having just shaken off Sophia's clinginess, the last thing he needed was another unwanted admirer.
"Excuse me, I'd like some private time with my companion. Please leave," Shawn said with a polite nod to Aileen before turning to take Zoe's hand, ready to walk away.
But Aileen wasn't about to let him go so easily. She called out, "Wait! Don't rush off!"
Aileen raised her glass to Shawn with a mocking smile and proposed a toast. "I've heard you're quite the heartthrob back in Clusia. I bet you've got quite the track record with the ladies, haven't you?"
Aileen deliberately belittled Zoe, implying she was just a casual fling Shawn picked up to pass the time, someone he fooled around with when he was bored.
Aileen's entourage instantly caught her drift, each flashing contemptuous smirks.
