If Shawn hadn't shown such gentlemanly restraint just now, Zoe might have made her move right then.
Zoe got up to open the window for some fresh air. But just as she lifted the pane, violent pounding erupted at the door. It set her nerves instantly on edge. Without hesitation, Zoe turned toward the entrance.
Shawn stepped out of the bathroom and joined Zoe to face the trouble outside.
The door swung open to reveal dozens of men crowding outside, led by none other than the guy with the broken hand.
"Guys, it's him! That bastard broke my hand!" He shot a leering glance at Zoe. "And I want this one. Make it quick. Deal with that guy, then strip her naked and throw her on the bed. I'm gonna have my way with her."
Even with a broken hand, the ringleader was still obsessed with women, looking like a depraved sex fiend.
Zoe fixed the man with a silent, icy stare. To her, he was already a dead man walking.
As for Shawn, he remained utterly composed in the face of the mob.
The ringleader with a broken hand mistook their calmness for sheer terror.
The ringleader burst into raucous laughter. "Look at these two, scared shitless by me! Think you're tough, punk? I'll crush your family jewels, then make you watch as I fuck your woman right here in front of everyone!"
"Boss, let us handle this bastard."
"Yeah, Boss, just kick back and enjoy the show. We'll handle this guy quick, so you can have fun with that chick sooner."
The punks clearly didn't take Zoe and Shawn seriously. They cracked their knuckles and swaggered forward, itching to throw some punches.
Shawn told Zoe, "Wait inside for me."
Zoe chuckled and flashed a confident smile. "Come on, this kind of thing is beneath you. Let me handle it instead."
"Absolutely not. I'm your man—it's my duty to protect you," Shawn insisted. Every time he tried to shield Zoe, she always acted first, but this time, he was determined to be the one standing in front of her.
Zoe saw right through the man's thoughts and couldn't help but shake her head. 'Men and their pride... Honestly, it's just ridiculous,' she thought wryly.
"Alright then, but hurry up. I'll be waiting for you in bed," Zoe said, her tone deliberately teasing.
Seeing that Zoe and Shawn weren't scared at all—in fact, they were shamelessly showing off their love right in front of everyone—the thugs were instantly annoyed.
"Outrageous! Everyone, get them!"
One of the thugs shouted, "Charge! Kill the bastard!"
"Seriously? Rubbing your lovey-dovey crap in my face just because I'm single?"
A group of hot-blooded men, riled up by Zoe's actions, began howling as they charged at her and Shawn in a frenzy.
Shawn moved with ruthless efficiency. He twisted and broke the arms of the first two men who charged at him. As the others rushed forward, he hoisted the two and smashed them straight into the crowd, sending bodies crashing everywhere.
Shawn fought with effortless precision, moving like a force of nature. He didn't give his opponents the slightest chance to fight back.
The man with the broken hand could hardly believe his eyes. In the blink of an eye, the tables had turned.
Dozens of his men were sprawled on the ground, groaning in agony, while Shawn, the man he was supposed to deal with, stood there completely unscathed.
'No... This is impossible,' the ringleader thought, his mind reeling in disbelief.
"W-Who the hell are you?" the ringleader stammered. He had brought his most seasoned fighters, yet none of them could withstand even a single blow from Shawn. It was utterly inconceivable.
"You just wait! I can get more guys. Don't you dare run!" he shouted.
Terrified that Shawn might come after him again, the man hurled a final threat and bolted, abandoning his men on the spot without a second thought.
Shawn closed the door. Zoe was already sitting on the edge of the bed, beckoning him over with a curl of her finger. But Shawn just stood there still.
Zoe flashed him a playful smile. "It's getting late. How about we call it a night and turn in together?"
