Shawn's ears perked up, his expression shifting abruptly. Zoe noticed the change in atmosphere too. She shot him a wry smile and quipped, "Looks like someone's determined to ruin our romantic night at this love hotel, huh?"
Shawn said firmly, "Stay here. I'll check it out."
Zoe didn't argue. She figured that while Shawn handled the mess outside, she'd take care of anything waiting inside.
As soon as Shawn stepped out, Zoe moved toward the window. It was then that a shadowy figure suddenly leaped inside, a blade flashing in her hand as she lunged straight for Zoe's throat.
Zoe's expression turned icy. "How dare you!" she snapped as she caught the attacker's wrist mid-strike and slammed her to the ground in one fluid motion.
The woman tried to get up, but Zoe pressed her down. "Did I say you could move?"
The woman lashed out with a swift kick, but Zoe blocked it with her arm, then twisted around and grabbed the woman by the ankle. Before she could react, Zoe hoisted her up and tossed her straight out the window.
The woman lost her balance and was left dangling halfway out the window, looking utterly disheveled and helpless.
"Tell me who's behind this, and I might let you go. Otherwise..." She let the threat hang in the air, leaving the rest unsaid.
The woman showed no sign of yielding. With a sudden burst of strength, she seized Zoe's hand and used it as leverage to vault herself onto the windowsill.
As she vaulted into the room, her immediate goal was to shove Zoe out the window.
Having dealt with the situation outside, Shawn rushed over the moment he saw Zoe was in danger, ready to help.
Seeing Shawn approach, Zoe instantly seized the woman by the wrist and deliberately leaped out the window, dragging the woman with her.
The woman was caught completely off guard. Before she could react, Zoe's sudden plunge yanked her, dragging most of her body out the window.
If Shawn hadn't rushed over and grabbed the woman's legs in time, both she and Zoe would have tumbled out together.
When Shawn reached out to pull Zoe up, Zoe stopped him. "No rush. She's being pulled from both sides right now. It can't feel good."
So Zoe had timed her leap perfectly. She wanted to push the woman to the breaking point, forcing her to spill everything under the unbearable strain of being pulled from both sides.
Under these circumstances, the woman was utterly blindsided. She never imagined she could still be outmaneuvered.
She felt like her arm could pop out of its socket at any moment. Although Shawn had a firm grip on her legs, her knees were jammed painfully against the windowsill.
Each movement sent searing pain through her, and she was terrified her bones might snap at any second.
Minutes ticked by. Zoe dangled below, swaying leisurely, completely unconcerned, as if she had all the time in the world.
The woman struggled desperately to pry Zoe's hand off and save herself, but she had severely underestimated Zoe's strength. Anyone Zoe caught hold of stood no chance of escaping unless she chose to let go.
"Let go!" the woman screamed in agony, unable to bear the pain.
"Talk. Who hired you?" Zoe demanded, deliberately moving her grip higher, from the woman's wrist to her arm. If she kept this up, her whole weight would soon be hanging off the woman.
"Fine, I'll talk! It was a woman. She contacted me through the underground auction, but I don't know who she is. The auction should have her information. If you want to know who hired me, go check with them!" the woman gasped.
Zoe glanced at Shawn, and he frowned.
They had planned to infiltrate the underground auction to clean up its shady dealings, but before they could act, someone tried to kill Zoe. It was clearly someone who knew her and held a grudge.
Sophia was the first suspect that came to Shawn's mind. After all, she had a history of targeting Zoe. But Zoe wasn't convinced. 'It can't be that straightforward,' she thought.
"I've told you everything. Let me go right now!" the woman screamed in agony, her voice strained with unbearable pain.
