Zoe kicked off the wall for leverage and flipped swiftly through the window. Before the woman could react, her arm went slack and Zoe dragged her down, slamming her hard to the ground.
"Don't kill me!" the woman screamed in terror as the knife's tip came within millimeters of piercing her eyeball.
With a casual flick of her wrist, Zoe sent the dagger flying into the wall, the blade sinking three inches deep—a clear sign of just how much force she'd used.
The woman heaved a sigh of relief. For a moment, she thought she was a goner.
"Scram!" Zoe released the woman with a shove.
The woman scrambled away on all fours, her heart pounding. She thought, 'If I'd known I was supposed to kill such a terrifying monster, I wouldn't have done it for 30 thousand—hell, not even for 300 thousand! This is a death sentence!'
As soon as the woman left, Zoe and Shawn slipped out after her without making a sound. 'What a shame about the romantic hotel. We finally got a chance to stay but didn't even get to enjoy it,' Zoe thought.
The woman ran like the wind, convincing her speed made her untouchable. But Zoe and Shawn were anything but ordinary. When they decided to tail someone, their target would never even notice.
After escaping from the love hotel, the woman didn't head straight for her destination. Instead, she deliberately circled the area several times, constantly checking for pursuers. Only after that did she retrieve a hidden motorcycle and speed off.
Zoe and Shawn slipped out of the shadows, following the path the woman had taken into the alley. To their surprise, what looked like an ordinary passage opened up into a hidden world—a bustling used car market.
Just as Zoe and Shawn were about to buy a car to continue pursuing the female assassin, a gang of thuggish-looking men suddenly closed in on them.
"Hey, look! They're Clusians!"
"Man, this is prime turf in Merilunia. You don't see many Clusian faces around here."
"Hot damn, this chick is fine. If we snatch her and sell her off, she'd fetch us a fortune!"
"This guy's built like a tank. Looks like he can really take a beating. Send him to the underground fight club and he'll fetch us a damn good price," one of the thugs sneered.
These thugs were treating Zoe and Shawn like merchandise. After all, this was Merilunia. Nobody here gave a damn about Clusians.
To them, anyone from Clusia was nothing but lowlife scum—utterly beneath them, not even worthy to share the same space.
Zoe and Shawn stayed calm, even as the thugs hurled insults and foul language at them. They didn't fight back, which only made the gang think they were easy targets.
"Stop standing around. Get them!"
One of the thugs grinned. "After we get paid, let's hit the bar together."
"Check out this chick. She's pretty damn hot. How about we have a little fun with her before we sell her off?" one of them leered.
One of the thugs snickered. "Damn right. Might as well get a free taste while we can!"
The more the thugs talked, the cockier they became, until they were all roaring with laughter.
Just then, another gang showed up—clearly rivals of the first group. Their predatory gazes immediately locked onto Shawn and Zoe.
"You think you can keep all the good stuff for yourselves?"
"Finders, keepers! We want our cut too."
As more people joined in, their opponents multiplied from a handful to over a dozen. The place was a den of criminals, bristling with hungry, predatory stares from every direction.
It seemed Zoe and Shawn had unwittingly stumbled into a den of criminals.
Just then, a petite figure emerged and positioned herself protectively between Shawn and Zoe. Her voice trembling, she pleaded with the two gang leaders, "Please, let them go. They're just ordinary tourists passing through."
Zoe recognized her instantly. It was the woman she'd saved in the alley before. 'What's she doing here?' she wondered, surprised.
The woman's plea was met with bursts of mocking laughter from both gangs.
One of the thugs sneered at her, "Who the hell do you think you are, you filthy bitch? How dare you beg us to let them go?"
