"Damn right. With that messed-up face of yours, you're not worth shit. Now you're trying to screw up my business? Think I'm some pushover?"
The two gang leaders had sized up Zoe and Shawn's worth and weren't about to let such valuable assets slip through their fingers.
The woman glanced back at Zoe and Shawn, her voice urgent as she warned the gang leaders, "They're not your average targets. If you mess with them, you'll regret it."
She had seen with her own eyes just how deadly Zoe could be. There was no doubt in her mind that Zoe was anything but ordinary.
The woman stepped in to help Zoe, not really to repay her for saving her life, but because she didn't want her hideout to be ruined by these two uninvited guests.
Shane sneered at the other gang leader, "Hey, Ryder, catch that? She says these two aren't your average marks."
Ryder scoffed, glaring at Shane, "Cut the crap, Shane. I see right through your little game. Trying to provoke me into making the first move? Dream on. If we're splitting the loot, we take them down together."
Ryder and Shane, the rival gang leaders, were locked in a heated debate over who would strike first to claim their prize.
Seeing that these two idiots simply refused to believe her, the woman couldn't help but issue a warning. "I'm dead serious. This woman just killed several people. She and the man are no ordinary tourists."
"Killed several people? This chick? You sure about that?" Ryder scoffed, barely containing his laughter. He figured she was just shooting off her mouth.
Shane snapped impatiently, "Dudes, get this nuisance out of my sight! She's screwing with our payday."
Two thugs quickly moved in and grabbed the woman, dragging her away. Struggling furiously, she couldn't hold back her rage and spat, "You fucking morons! You're signing your own death warrants!"
A sharp slap echoed. Ryder himself stepped in and immediately unleashed a flurry of kicks and punches on the woman. In just a few blows, he knocked her to the ground, leaving her coughing up blood.
"That's enough." Zoe finally spoke up, her voice icy.
Shane, still not done having his fun, gave the woman another vicious kick. Scanning the crowd, he snarled, "Who the hell just told me to stop? You wanna taste my fists too?"
Zoe stepped forward, her gaze unwavering, and made her stance clear.
Shane sneered, "Well, well—pretty face, and spicy attitude. I bet plenty of high-rollers would pay top dollar for a girl like you."
Shane was already calculating how much this Clusian woman could fetch.
Ryder sneered from the sidelines, "Can't even save your own ass, but you're still playing hero? You've got a death wish."
Shane rolled his shoulders and sneered, "Move your asses! The goods aren't gonna sell themselves if we drag our feet."
"Yeah, let's grab them and sell them quick before things get hairy. Won't feel safe till the cash is in hand."
Normally, Ryder and Shane were sworn enemies, always at each other's throats over turf and profits. But when money was involved, even they could put aside their differences and work together.
The underlings from both gangs erupted in cheers as their bosses prepared to strike.
"Boss, let me handle these two punks. They're nothing."
One of Ryder's men said, "Boss, I'd walk through fire for you!"
"Just a couple of worthless Clusian nobodies. Why send so many men? My crew are all elites," said Ryder.
Shane immediately dropped his fists and sneered, "Fine. If that's how you want to play it, why don't you have your guys handle it?"
Ryder retorted, "Why the hell should my guys do all the dirty work? We're splitting the profits equally here. Don't think you can just sit back and freeload. Get one of your own men to step up."
Ryder and Shane were on the verge of a shouting match over their disagreement.
"Why don't you all come at me together?" Zoe's voice cut through the air unexpectedly.
"Great idea," Ryder and Shane said in unison.
But when they realized it was the Clusian woman who'd made the suggestion, both bosses froze. Then, suddenly, they doubled over with laughter.
"Did I hear that right? This Clusian chick actually wants both our crews to take her on at once?" one of them wheezed.
