Just as Aileen's hand was about to touch Shawn's shirt, he suddenly struck out and grabbed her wrist. "Ouch, that hurts," Irene continued, mimicking Zoe's tone.
Shawn already knew the woman before him wasn't Zoe at all. Zoe would never use such underhanded tactics against him.
Shawn bit his tongue hard to stay alert. Then, without hesitation, he ruthlessly dragged Aileen to the door and flung her out of the room.
Aileen tumbled to the floor in an undignified heap, her clothes askew and hair in disarray.
"You went too far, Shawn," Aileen shouted.
The bright hallway lights finally revealed their faces to each other.
With an icy glare, Shawn slammed the door shut without hesitation. He even locked it securely.
Aileen refused to give up. She'd come this far; she couldn't just walk away now. Gritting her teeth, she scrambled to her feet and tried to force the door open.
With his last shred of sobriety, Shawn dragged the TV cabinet over to barricade the door. Even if Aileen had a key now, there was no way she was getting in.
"Open the door. Did you hear me?" Aileen shrieked, pounding furiously on the door.
Shawn realized then that Aileen hadn't just drugged him with something ordinary. Even with all his special training, he was barely holding on.
Even someone who had undergone special training like him could hardly bear it. 'My mind's slipping. If this keeps up, who knows what I might do?' Shawn thought, panic rising as he fought to stay in control.
Zoe sensed something was off. Shawn had been gone too long; it wasn't like buying something should take this much time. Something must have happened.
Zoe immediately tried calling Shawn, but the call went straight to voicemail. This only confirmed her suspicions. Something was wrong. Without hesitation, she stormed out of the room.
The attendant who'd told her to wait in the room was lingering nearby, clearly keeping watch on her. Zoe strode forward, grabbed him by the collar, and demanded, "Where's my companion?"
"The gentleman went out to run an errand. I think he should be back any minute now," the attendant replied evasively.
"You're still lying," Zoe snapped. Without another word, she grabbed the man by the collar and unleashed a furious beating.
The assault was so brutal that all his teeth were knocked out. They were scattered across the floor like broken pearls. His face was a mangled, bloody mess, a truly pitiful sight.
Zoe demanded, "Tell me. Where is he?"
The battered attendant, trembling and barely able to speak through his bloodied mouth, stammered, his words slurred through broken teeth, "He-he's not on this floor. He's upstairs."
Zoe drew back her fist, ready to strike again. The man, now thoroughly terrified, blurted out everything in panic.
"It was Ms. Carleton. She paid me to keep an eye on you. She wanted to have sex with that man, to make it a done deal," the waiter stammered, his voice trembling.
"Ms. Carleton also had someone tamper with the elevator buttons. It was labeled as the 16th floor, but it actually went to the 17th," he added, still shaken.
Zoe frowned. 'How could Shawn not notice the floor was off by one?' she wondered.
But now wasn't the time to dwell on it. She had to find Shawn right away. Since the elevator was rigged, she didn't hesitate. She took the stairs instead.
Zoe reached the floor above, yet the hallway was deserted. Her pulse quickened.
Aileen had already returned to her own room, on the same floor as Shawn. Without hesitation, she called for someone to break down Shawn's door.
'Tonight, I must make him mine,' she vowed to herself, her eyes burning with determination.
Aileen was lucky to have hidden just in time. Otherwise, if Aileen had seen her, she would've been in serious trouble.
Zoe rushed to Room 06, only to find that all the room numbers on this floor had been relabeled to start with 16. 'No wonder Shawn didn't suspect anything,' she thought.
Zoe found Room 1606 on this floor. She knocked, but there was no response. When she tried to force the door open, it felt sealed shut. Something was definitely wrong.
