It was Shawn. Zoe rubbed her temples, feeling a bit exasperated. 'Who says ice-cold men can't be clingy?' she wondered. These days, Shawn's unexpected cuteness was really giving Zoe a headache.
"Ms. Evans?" the man on the other side asked.
"No need for lining up to welcome me. I'll be right there," she said.
"Great. We'll be waiting for your arrival with the utmost respect." The caller was so excited, they forgot to hang up. "Listen up, everyone. Ms. Evans is coming over soon. We finally get to see her again.
Zoe could only sigh inwardly. The persistent knocking at the door continued. Zoe opened the door to find Shawn standing outside. "What do you want?" she asked.
Shawn held out the travel itinerary to Zoe. "Someone gave me this. Wanna go explore together?"
Zoe glanced at it and said, "Who gave you this? It's full of traps."
Shawn asked, "Then do you know any good spots?"
Zoe grinned, "Of course, when it comes to date spots, it's gotta be—"
She suddenly cut herself off and looked at Shawn. "Mr. Ludwig, are you trying to ask me out?"
Shawn remained silent. But the tips of his ears turned red.
"You should've said so earlier. But I'm booked today. Let's rain check for tomorrow, okay?" Zoe quipped, deliberately shutting the door and striding toward the elevator.
Sure enough, Shawn trailed right after her. Ever since yesterday, Shawn had been glued to Zoe's side—wherever she went, he was right there like her shadow.
The only time she could catch a break was in her own room; otherwise, privacy was practically nonexistent.
Zoe couldn't help but think, 'If it weren't for that 'No Men Allowed' sign on the ladies' room, I bet Shawn would follow me in there too.'
"Shawn, I know I'm irresistible to you, but you really don't have to follow me around every single day. I might start thinking you're courting me," Zoe sighed, deliberately emphasizing the last few words.
Shawn cleared his throat. "You've already been targeted for assassination twice. I'm protecting you."
Zoe raised an eyebrow. 'Having Clusia's legendary warrior as my bodyguard? Now that's what I call VIP treatment,' she mused but she didn't need this.
"I'm not some little kid. Stop hovering over me like this," she said.
"But I think you do." Shawn wasn't actually worried about the assassins hurting Zoe. He just wanted more alone time with her.
"Stop following me. I've got business to attend to," Zoe said curtly before stepping into the elevator. Her attitude was rather cold.
Shawn frowned. 'Could things really be going wrong this quickly?' he wondered.
After racking his brains to no avail, Shawn recalled what Chase had said. "If you don't know anything, just ask the all-knowing search engine. There's always an answer."
Shawn quickly pulled out his phone and typed a question into the search bar. [Why did my girlfriend become distant after sex?]
Back in the day, such a question would never have crossed Shawn's mind.
Ever since he and Zoe had slept, Shawn couldn't help but notice she was always avoiding his touch.
This made him wonder if he'd done something wrong. Maybe he'd done something to put her off.
After posting the question, Shawn was flooded with a wide variety of replies. Clearly, he wasn't alone. Many others were dealing with the same issue.
But as Shawn scrolled through the comments, his expression darkened.
[You dumbass. Your girlfriend's not satisfied with your performance in bed—that's why she's giving you the cold shoulder.]
[Dude, your girlfriend's definitely seeing someone else. You got cucked. Dump her ASAP.]
[I'm sorry for not helping you. My girlfriend dumped me the same way just last week.]
[Same here.]
[Misery loves company.]
[Here's a specialist's contact. Go check it out. No shame in having issues, just get it sorted.]
[You nailed it. Impotence isn't a disease, but when it hits, it's killer.]
