Rick immediately looked at Sophia and suspected she was behind it.
Sophia was stunned. 'I haven't even done anything yet. How could things go wrong so quickly? Could it be Eunice? Was she bold enough to plant a bomb in the Universal Tower?'
Then the hotel manager arrived. Zoe, as the primary target, was singled out for questioning.
"I'm also involved. We'll do this together," Shawn insisted. He immediately stepped forward to shield her.
It was clear that someone was after Zoe. And if that was the case, Shawn wouldn't leave her unprotected. Unsure if those people were trustworthy, Shawn stayed by her side the whole time.
Sophia burned with jealousy as she watched the scene unfold. She wondered why the bomb didn't just kill Zoe.
Investigations revealed that all surveillance footage from that period had been wiped. However, the security confirmed no one had entered or exited the building. It meant the bomber was still inside.
The manager said, "We sincerely apologize. We never expected an incident like this. It was due to our negligence.
"To make amends, we'd like to upgrade you to the presidential suite and offer complimentary access to all services here for a week."
With that, everyone present was so stunned they held their breath.
Many of the Universal Tower's services were expensive, but now the two could enjoy them all for free. They were so lucky.
"No need," Zoe refused.
The manager continued, "Please, we insist. We don't want to make a bad impression. And we won't leave until you accept."
The manager knew how to negotiate, and he even dipped into a deep bow to show his sincerity. If Zoe refused again, she would appear unreasonable. Then she looked at Shawn, but he remained silent.
They both knew it wasn't a gift. Instead, it was a trap in disguise. But the only way to find the truth was to take it.
"Okay. We accept it," said Zoe.
"Excellent. I'll arrange everything right away. Just give me a few minutes," answered the manager.
He was highly efficient. After a series of quick phone calls, he was about to show Shawn and Zoe to the suite.
"Shawn, I'm scared. Can I come with you?" Sophia walked up to him, hoping he'd let her join them.
Rick stepped forward when Shawn was about to refuse. He said, "If the culprit is targeting Clusian women, Sophia is in danger. Shawn, you have to protect her."
Before Shawn could argue, Zoe said, "Let her come with us."
Sophia hadn't expected Zoe to agree so easily. She gave Zoe a suspicious glance. Then they followed the manager to the suite.
Once everything was settled, the manager left. Sophia didn't want to talk to Zoe. She clung to Shawn's arm and said, "Shawn, I'm terrified. Can I stay with you all night?"
"No one is after you," Shawn said bluntly.
Sophia didn't know what to say. Zoe watched them and was amused. She thought, 'Sophia's so amazing. But too bad for her she's up against Shawn. All of her tricks won't work on him.'
Zoe said, "Just enjoy the suite yourself. We're leaving." Then she held out her hand to Shawn. Without hesitation, Shawn took her hand, and they walked out together.
Sophia rushed after them, only to see them step into the elevator. She thought, 'Damn it. I'm trying to split them up. How can I do that alone?'
Inside the elevator, Shawn asked, "What do you think is going on here?"
Zoe remained silent and thought the bomb couldn't have come from Medusa. If so, there would be a long list of suspects. Then she glanced at Shawn and said, "Maybe it was one of your admirers."
The comment hit a nerve, and Shawn immediately thought of Aileen. She had done so many things, and sending a bomb wasn't beyond her.
"Not her," Zoe said firmly.
Shawn said, "How did you know what I was thinking?"
Zoe replied, "Well, it's not hard. And it can't be Aileen. Whoever did this wasn't trying to kill me."
She wouldn't get hurt by a bomb in a package. Zoe thought whoever went to such lengths was to keep her and Shawn in the hotel.
Shawn pieced it together quickly. He said, "We're being targeted."
Zoe nodded. She didn't know who was doing this. But they were wasting their effort since she had already planned to stay anyway.
Just then, her phone buzzed. She took a look and immediately said, "We've got some news."
Zoe had asked Lance to dig up everything on Jennifer, who had hired assassins. She wanted to uncover Jennifer's background.
But when Zoe and Shawn arrived at the casino, it was a war zone. Bodies of Lance's men lay scattered everywhere.
As Zoe checked them one by one, she found no survivors. She knew their actions the day before had made the casino a target for retaliation.
"Over here," a voice suddenly called out from the shadows.
Zoe followed the voice, only to find a fallen suit of a knight's armor. It turned out that Lance had seen trouble coming and hidden inside his prized collection piece. That was how he survived. Then Zoe and Shawn hauled Lance out.
Lance said, "This is your fault. You owe me."
Zoe replied, "What do you want from us?"
Lance said, "I like your attitude, and I'm straightforward." He looked at the mess and continued, "Since you're offering, you'll cover my damages."
"Name your number. After we verify your intel," Zoe countered.
"Straight to business then," Lance said. "We got Jennifer's photo, but Dimitri's men did this. You handle Dimitri, and we're square."
Zoe and Shawn exchanged a glance. Neither of them had heard that name before.
Lance continued, "I wouldn't expect you to know him. He's new blood. Nobody knew his background when he showed up two years ago and took over half of the exclusive district. Now, he's Kadeem's equal."
Zoe shot Lance a look and said, "Are you sending us to our graves?"
