Lance answered, "Don't put it like that. You're skilled, after all. Dimitri values people like you. Since you're already going after Kadeem, why not partner up? Just do me this favour."
"Did he say that?" Shawn's gaze locked onto Lance, watching for any telling.
Lance nodded frantically and said, "Yes. After your high-stakes game here yesterday, everyone knew you. That's why I'm in trouble now. You should make this right."
Zoe reached out for the photo, and Lance knew the deal was sealed. He immediately pulled up Jennifer's photo on his phone.
There was a woman in the photo. She wore a full metal mask, and her hair was a mess of neon colors. No face, no identifiable features. Nothing to go on.
But with just one glance, Zoe felt the figure looked strangely familiar. Shawn looked at the photo, too. He felt the same way as Zoe. They both thought they knew her, but they couldn't recall it.
Their eyes narrowed. Shawn asked, "Have you got any other photos?"
"No," Lance admitted. "Jennifer's a ghost. I heard only Francis had seen her face, and nobody knew who she was." He didn't mention the two men he'd lost just getting this useless photo.
"Set up a meeting with Dimitri," Zoe commanded.
She thought that Dimitri had to be someone special. She intended to meet him and uncover his true motives.
Lance replied, "Got it. I'll do it right now, and maybe you can meet him tonight." Lance was relieved. His nightmare might finally end.
Lance arranged everything by nightfall. But he was afraid of Dimitri's reach, so he just provided the address and time to Zoe and Shawn. No way he was going with them.
Zoe and Shawn arrived at the meeting spot. It was an exclusive club. The parking lot was lined with luxury cars, each one worth at least three million. It was clearly a playground for the rich.
Zoe and Shawn arrived in an ordinary sedan. The moment they stepped out, a valet sneered at them and said, "Did you get lost, losers? It's not a place for you. Scram before we make you."
They ignored him because they knew small-minded gatekeepers existed everywhere. Then Zoe tossed the valet her keys and said, "Park it."
The valet reflexively caught them, then threw them to the ground. He shouted, "Deaf or stupid? I said scram."
Just then, a group of wealthy young elites arrived. They saw the scene and paused. One asked, "What's going on here?"
The valet hurriedly said, "Mr. Gardner, my apologies. Please get inside. Just trash to take out."
Hearing the name, Zoe and Shawn locked onto the man. Francis stiffened under their gaze.
Eager to curry favor with Francis, the valet shouted, "How dare you two losers stare at Mr. Gardner? You don't even know who he is." Then he swung his hand at Zoe.
A scream cut through the air as the valet went flying. Zoe just gave him a brutal kick.
Francis immediately sneered. He said, "Feisty. I like that. And you're quite beautiful." He snapped his fingers and continued, "Seize them."
Shawn shot them a cold glare and said, "Move, unless you're tired of living." He wouldn't let anyone hurt Zoe.
Zoe glanced at Shawn and felt satisfied with his possessive streak. In a better mood, she turned to Francis and asked, "You keep a woman named Jennifer, right?"
Francis burst out laughing. He replied, "I knew you were coming onto me." His gaze swept over her, dripping with lust. He continued, "Consider me hooked. Come here. Let me show you some real attention."
Shawn was about to strike. But Zoe restrained him with a subtle wrist press. She said, "Patience."
Francis' face darkened instantly as he saw Zoe whispering intimately with Shawn instead of coming over. He sneered and said, "Don't make me annoyed."
Zoe's lips curled in a cold smirk. She replied, "We're Dimitri's guests."
Someone laughed and said, "No one would believe that."
"Since when would Dimitri come to this club?"
"Try a better lie."
"She should say she's Dimitri's woman."
Francis swelled with pride despite their mockery. He said, "That's funny. Do you know me? I'm his right hand. Then explain why I've never heard of you?"
With that, the crowd grew even more certain that Zoe was just bluffing.
"Faking ties to Dimitri. She's signing her death warrant."
"Raymond's inside. He'll skin her alive for this."
"Yeah, Raymond can't stand anyone ruining Dimitri's reputation."
"Someone's gone to fetch Raymond. It's gonna be funny."
Hearing Raymond's name, Francis went a little pale. Although he worked for Dimitri, he was nobody compared to the real right-hand.
He thought, 'But if I take down these two fakes before Raymond even gets here, Mr. Chandler will finally value me.'
"Stop standing around," Francis barked at his men. "Grab them. I'm delivering them to Mr. Chandler."
Seeing the men charge at them, Zoe and Shawn sprang into action without hesitation. As Shawn dropped them all in one motion, Zoe didn't even need to help.
At this time, Francis stumbled back, gun raised. He aimed at Shawn and said to Zoe, "Nobody moves, or I shoot."
Disarming him would have been very easy, but neither Zoe nor Shawn bothered. Zoe said, "Relax. We'll go see Dimitri with you."
Seeing them not move, Francis puffed up with fake confidence. He gloated and said, "Smart choice, or you'll get hurt."
Francis kept his gun trained on Zoe and Shawn, forcing them to follow him into the club. The crowd trailed behind, eager for the show.
