With a heavy thud, Howard lay sprawled on the ground, eyes wide in disbelief. 'A woman... actually broke my leg with a single punch?' he thought.
And the force that sent him crashing down was far beyond human limits. Zoe was obviously a skilled fighter.
Zoe landed, coldly gazing down at Howard.
Howard had one leg broken, yet he dared not remain on the ground—otherwise, it would mean admitting defeat.
'But my leg's got a comminuted fracture,' he thought in despair. 'Even surgery might not restore it to normal. What should I do now?'
Everyone around was stunned, but none more so than Francis.
'I figured they were tough,' Francis thought, 'but I never imagined a woman could be even more ruthless than Howard. That punch alone was enough to make my heart skip a beat.'
Standing on one leg, Howard glared coldly at Zoe. Though his mobility was compromised, he wasn't about to just stand there and take a beating.
In one fluid motion, he drew his weapon, flicked off the safety, and pulled the trigger—the entire sequence executed with deadly precision.
The crowd gasped in shock at the sudden turn of events—'That woman's done for!' they all thought.
Francis was shocked that Howard would kill Zoe in public. He immediately scurried into a corner, heart pounding. 'Damn, if he loses it, he might turn his rage—and that gun—on me next!'
To everyone else, Howard moved with blinding speed, but to Zoe, it all played out in slow-motion clarity. The instant his hand went for the gun, she'd already read his intention and wrenched up the coffee table beside her as a shield.
The bullet tore toward her, but the coffee table met it in midair with a crystalline explosion—glass shattered across the floor, blocking what would have been a fatal shot.
In that split second, Zoe slipped behind Howard, snatched the gun from his hand, and pressed the cold muzzle to his temple.
"You lost," Zoe said coolly.
Howard looked utterly humiliated. The people around were all so shocked that their mouths dropped open, but no one dared say a word—the outcome was undeniable: Howard had lost.
Howard glared at Zoe, his face dark with humiliation. "I really underestimated you."
Zoe returned the weapon to Howard.
Howard glared coldly at her. "Aren't you afraid I'll shoot you again?"
"Go ahead," Zoe challenged.
Howard actually fired at Zoe—but the gun was empty.
Zoe shook her head in disappointment. 'He doesn't even know enough about guns to tell if it's loaded,' she thought with a hint of scorn. 'Someone this clueless was doomed from the start.'
After his defeat, Howard's face darkened with humiliation.
Just then, someone slipped into the room and leaned in to whisper something in Howard's ear. Howard froze on the spot, his expression shifting from anger to utter shock.
"Are you... that unbeatable couple?" Howard asked.
"Yes," Zoe replied curtly.
Howard immediately forced an awkward smile. "So you really are Mr. Chandler's guests. Sorry for being so rude."
Howard whipped around and slapped Francis hard across the face. "You idiot! Do you know what'll happen if you offend Mr. Chandler's guests?"
Francis was stunned. "Wait, what? They're really...?"
The others were equally stunned. No one had expected this seemingly ordinary couple to be Dimitri's guests. They panicked, thinking, 'We were so rude just now—are we going to pay for it?'
"Please come with me to meet Mr. Chandler," Howard said with newfound respect to Zoe and Shawn, leaning heavily on his supporters for balance.
Only after they had left did Francis finally snap out of his daze. 'So I was the only fool in this entire farce,' he thought bitterly.
