Zoe didn't care what he thought. Without hesitation, she took the indenture.
The young man scowled, refusing to back down. "I challenge you!" he snapped.
Zoe gave the young man a dismissive glance. "You're no match for me."
"You'll never know unless you try!" the young man shot back, his voice brimming with determination.
Zoe ignored him outright, tucking away the contract as she turned to leave.
In the exclusive district, there's an unwritten rule: anyone who signed such an indenture would become the lowest of the low. If the slaves refused to follow the masters holding their contract, the enforcers here will execute them without hesitation.
No one dared harbor a slave who betrays their master—execution on sight, no exceptions.
The young man clearly understood the rules. If he didn't want to follow his new owner, he had one last option: challenge them to a fight. If a slave managed to win, he could break free from his fate and refuse to be taken away.
The club owner hadn't expected to have such a defiant one by his side and instantly flew into a rage. "You filthy cur! Trying to get me killed, are you? When I give you to someone, you damn well obey!"
The young man stood right in front of the club owner as he was slapped repeatedly across the face, yet still offered no resistance.
'Such resilience is truly rare,' Zoe mused. The more she observed the young man, the more she thought it would be a waste to leave him here.
It was better to take him under her wing and train him properly—he could easily rival Medusa and the others.
"Mister, I accept the challenge," Zoe said coolly, stepping in to halt the club owner's abuse.
Zoe looked at the young man before her, who was like a rebellious lone wolf. She asked, "If I win, will you swear allegiance to me?"
"Talk to me when you win," the young man shot back defiantly.
Zoe sized him up, clearly impressed. "So, where shall we have this match?" she asked.
"Let's go to the ring," the young man said.
"Too much hassle. Let's fight right here. One move decides it all," Zoe said, hands clasped behind her back.
The young man gritted his teeth. "Fine," he said.
Zoe raised her right hand and beckoned to the young man with a casual flick of her fingers.
Seeing this, the young man felt insulted. Not hesitating for a second, he lunged at her.
The crowd roared, waving and shouting.
"Come on, you got this!"
"Win this and the boss will favor you—you could be the next champ!"
"Go for it! There's a huge cash prize waiting!"
"We believe in you!"
"Don't lose to her, or you'll be a laughingstock forever!"
The crowd was clearly eager to see Zoe defeated—every man there hoping the young fighter would "put her in her place" and vent their pent-up frustrations.
Zoe simply watched the young man in silence.
"Here I come!" the young man warned, demonstrating his honor by giving Zoe a heads-up before launching a frenzied, all-out assault.
He fought with a wild, unpredictable style, relying solely on brute force and reckless energy to overwhelm his opponent with a flurry of chaotic attacks. But Zoe was nothing like anyone he'd ever faced—she didn't even lift a finger, simply standing her ground, utterly still.
The young man thought Zoe was looking down on him as an opponent, so his attacks grew even more vicious.
Suddenly, Zoe's fist shot out, colliding head-on with the young man's punch.
The young man staggered back several steps from the impact, his hand hanging at his side, trembling slightly.
The sheer force behind Zoe's punch shocked the young man. If she hadn't held back just now, his hand would've been shattered for sure.
"Again!" the young man growled defiantly, refusing to accept defeat despite their one-move agreement. He clenched his fists, determined to keep fighting.
This time, the young man switched to kicks—no technique, just wild, reckless flailing. Still, it was clear this rough, chaotic style had been honed through countless street fights.
