As Zoe was about to enter, several guards abruptly blocked her path.
"This is the VIP section," one of the guards said. "You don't belong here, so go away now."
Instead of getting annoyed at their attempts to remove her, Zoe demanded, "Get Dimitri out here to meet me."
Her casual request was met with a chorus of mocking laughter from the men.
"This woman's out of her mind."
"Yeah. As if VIP guests are just anyone she can demand to see."
"If she really knew Mr. Chandler, she would've come in with him. Probably just another social climber trying to cozy up to him."
Zoe had asked Dimitri to bring Jennifer over and planned to take care of some personal business while she was at it. Little did she expect to be hassled right at the entrance.
"What's going on here?" Aileen demanded as she strode over with her entourage, her face darkening in irritation when she saw someone blocking the way.
Upon seeing Aileen, the guard immediately said respectfully, "Ms. Carleton, how may I assist you?"
"I need to get into the VIP section—it's too noisy out here and it's ruining my auction mood," Aileen grumbled as she strode toward Zoe. "What's going on here?"
The guard said, "Just a clueless guest who blundered into the VIP section by mistake. We were just about to escort her out."
"Let's see which idiot thinks they can just barge into the VIP section," Aileen sneered, then snatched the mask off Zoe's face.
"It's you?" Aileen gasped, her eyes widening as she recognized Zoe.
But then she sneered, "Well, well, if it isn't this clueless nobody."
"What are you all gawking at? This woman has no status at all—she's just some pauper who probably can't even scrape together $33 million in pocket change," she said to the guards. "How does trash like her even dare show up at the auction?"
At Aileen's words, the guards stationed at the VIP section immediately closed in.
One of the guards turned to Zoe and warned, "Lady, if you don't leave now, we'll have to remove you for disturbing the peace."
"Get her out of here. Losers like her don't even deserve to set foot in this auction," Aileen sneered. After suffering multiple humiliations at Zoe's hands, she finally had the chance to turn the tables—and she wasn't about to let this opportunity slip away.
Everyone was waiting to see a good show. Someone even jeered, "She's toast!"
"Check it out! This woman just crossed the Underground Kingdom—she's going to be ripped to shreds."
"Haven't seen someone this bold in ages. Did she come here to commit suicide?"
The crowd burst into derisive laughter at Zoe's audacity.
Aileen sneered inwardly, 'This time, I'll teach you a good lesson.'
Zoe saw the guards weren't just verbally ejecting her but preparing to use force. Her voice turned icy as she warned, "If you value your lives, go tell Dimitri I'm waiting for him here."
"Who the hell do you think you are? Someone like you can't just demand to see Mr. Chandler."
"Just empty bluster! Ms. Carleton already told us she's nothing but a pauper."
"Get this pauper out of here now. A loser like her could bring bad luck to us."
Everyone treated Zoe like dirt, spewing the nastiest remarks they could think of.
Aileen grew annoyed seeing them just standing around talking instead of doing anything. "What's wrong with you?" she snapped. "Hurry up and get her out of here. Or are you waiting for the VIPs to come out and have their evening ruined by her?
"There'll be hell to pay."
The staff feared complaints most—one complaint here, and the manager would sell them off like livestock. By then, they'd become "organ donors" and end up cold corpses with nothing left. That was the last thing any of them wanted.
At that thought, the guards didn't dare hesitate any longer. They swarmed forward, closing in on Zoe from all sides.
"Get out now, or we'll use our stun batons!" one of the guards barked. Each of them brandished their weapons, ready to force Zoe to leave.
But Zoe didn't even flinch—not even a flicker of emotion crossed her face.
To the guards, her calm demeanor was a blatant act of defiance. They had to get rid of her, or they'd lose face, and no one would ever fear them again.
"Let's toss her out!" someone barked.
Working together, they grabbed Zoe by her arms and legs, ready to toss her straight out of the auction hall like trash.
Seeing that a conflict was inevitable, Aileen smirked triumphantly.
"All of you, go at her! That bitch stole my man—beat her up!" she said. "Whoever hits her the hardest gets $300,000 from me."
Nobody would say no to easy money. The moment the staff heard about the extra cash, they pounced on Zoe like a pack of ravenous wolves, each one desperate to get their hands on the reward.
Aileen picked up her compact mirror, deliberately ignoring the chaos around her, and began touching up her lipstick—her smug expression showing she was certain that Zoe was doomed.
Everyone thought the same way—after all, with a bunch of men up against a single woman, there was absolutely no way they could lose.
However, with a series of heavy thuds, Zoe effortlessly hurled the men out one after another, their bodies soon piling up in a tangled heap like dominos.
Zoe lowered her hands and locked eyes with the sole remaining staff member. "Go get Dimitri," she ordered.
Her voice was eerily calm, showing no trace of anger, yet the staff member felt as if he'd been plunged into an icy abyss.
Zoe watched as the staff member scrambled away to fetch Dimitri, then finally turned her gaze to Aileen, who looked utterly stunned.
Aileen stammered, "Y-you... what did you just do? How did you take them all down?"
As Zoe took a step toward Aileen, Aileen immediately shrieked, "Stay away! Help! She's going to kill me!"
No wonder Aileen was so terrified—Zoe looked downright murderous. She only felt safe after scrambling into the VIP section.
"Come over here if you dare. Let's see if you've really got the guts to break the rules of the underground auction," Aileen taunted, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Here, ordinary guests were strictly forbidden from entering the VIP section or bothering the VIPs. Anyone who broke this rule would face brutal consequences. There was once someone who defied the rules—he ended up with his limbs severed, meeting a truly gruesome end.
Zoe could clearly see Aileen was trying to provoke her, but she couldn't care less. In her world, there were no forbidden zones—she went wherever she pleased, and no one could stop her.
Aileen watched Zoe's feet with barely contained excitement. Just one more step and Zoe would break the rules here—in Aileen's mind, she was doomed.
With Aileen watching her every move, practically giddy with anticipation, Zoe finally stepped into the VIP section.
"You're finished. I'm summoning the enforcers to punish you right now," Aileen sneered. She reached for the wall alarm, ready to call in the enforcers in the Underground Kingdom to drag Zoe away.
But Zoe was quicker. Just as Aileen's hand was about to reach the red alarm button on the wall, Zoe seized her wrist.
"Let go of me!" Aileen shrieked. "Don't think you can get away with this. You're really dead this time."
