As Aileen shouted, Zoe swiftly raised her other hand and slapped Aileen's face several times, leaving Aileen dazed and disoriented.
But Zoe didn't let up, delivering slap after slap until Aileen couldn't say a word.
When Zoe finally stopped, Aileen snarled, "How dare you, you lowlife! Just wait—your doom is coming."
Sure enough, in less than a minute, more than a dozen men in black suits marched over in perfect formation. Their disciplined demeanor made it obvious—they weren't ordinary staff.
Spotting them, Aileen shrieked, "Over here! There's a troublemaker—seize her now!"
Up front, the leader was a hulking brute with a vicious scowl that screamed "trouble."
"Who the hell dares to make trouble at the underground auction?" the burly man snarled.
Aileen jabbed a finger at Zoe and said, "It's her."
When Shawn caught up and saw the situation, he immediately stepped beside Zoe, shielding her with his outstretched arm. Zoe was slightly surprised to see him, though she gave no outward sign of it.
"Is he involved too?" the burly man demanded.
Aileen, still hoping to win Shawn over, naturally denied his involvement. "No, he has nothing to do with this. It's that Clusian woman—she's the one who trespassed into the VIP section."
The burly man shot Zoe a cold glare, raised his hand, and barked, "Take her away."
Two henchmen stepped forward to drag Zoe away, but with Shawn blocking their path, they didn't dare get any closer.
The burly man snarled, "What are you standing around for? Take them both!"
The two men immediately moved to grab Shawn, but before they could reach him, Zoe stepped right in front of him and challenged, "If you want trouble, deal with me."
The burly man's face instantly darkened at her brazen defiance.
Aileen immediately fanned the flames, chiming in, "Sir, you saw it yourself. This woman is utterly outrageous—she's clearly here just to stir up trouble. You must arrest her and make an example of her."
The burly man looked at Aileen, who immediately asserted her status, "I'm from the Carleton family—I know them. That woman is just a nobody from Clusia. There's no way she's a VIP."
The two henchmen immediately moved to seize Zoe.
Seeing this, Aileen said, "Sir, she's a real fighter—you'll need more than a couple guys to handle her."
"I don't need you telling me how to do my job!" the burly man growled.
Aileen instantly fell silent. This was the Underground Kingdom's turf—even with her powerful family, she knew better than to act up here.
"Why are you still standing around?" the burly man yelled. "Seize her now!"
"Yes, sir!" At the command, the two henchmen immediately sprang into action.
But before they could react, Zoe had already hurled them out. One of them crashed straight into a metal trash can, sending it clattering loudly across the floor.
"You two worthless scum!" the burly man bellowed as he saw his men humiliated. He rushed over, raining kicks and punches on them. He showed no mercy even to his own minions—clearly, he was not a man to cross.
Then the burly man turned to Zoe. "Bitch, you've got some nerve. I'll skin you alive today."
In the Underground Kingdom, causing trouble meant certain death. The burly man was hell-bent on taking Zoe out—he drew his weapon without hesitation, scorning the idea of settling things with fists. After all, it was a firearms era.
The gunshot rang out, startling the more timid onlookers, who instantly squeezed their eyes shut, unwilling to witness the impending bloodshed. Aileen was among them.
A few seconds later, Aileen opened her eyes, eager to confirm Zoe's death. But what she saw made her recoil in horror, stumbling back a step.
