The leader immediately broke into an ingratiating smile. "All just a misunderstanding," he said hastily. "Since they're also from the VIP section, no offense at all.
"Get this body out of here and clean up immediately. Make sure our distinguished guests see nothing unpleasant."
The leader was seasoned and well-trained. Facing someone as powerful as Dimitri, he wouldn't dare show even a flicker of anger—not even if his entire crew was wiped out, let alone just one pal.
Right now, Dimitri was every bit as powerful as the ruler of the Underground Kingdom. Crossing him was as good as suicide.
The cleanup operation was swift and efficient. In no time, the scene was restored to its pristine state, as if nothing had happened at all.
Aileen frowned at the scene, clearly displeased. "She just killed someone—why isn't she being punished?" she protested.
This time, it wasn't Zoe but Dimitri who taught her a lesson. He slapped Aileen hard across the face without hesitation.
Aileen opened her mouth to protest, but the leader roughly clamped a hand over her mouth. "Mr. Chandler, please don't be angry," he said.
Dimitri ignored him and looked at Zoe. "Zoe, I'm truly sorry for the trouble caused by my poor arrangements. Would you kindly follow me to the private lounge?"
Zoe blocked Shawn's path, stopping him from following. "Shawn, this is personal," she said.
"Then I'll wait for you here," Shawn replied.
Without another word, Zoe followed the Dimitri into a private lounge.
Once inside the lounge, Zoe's eyes fell upon a woman kneeling on the floor. Dimitri explained, "This is Jennifer Dillon, the one you've been looking for."
Zoe stared at Jennifer, sensing something was off. She walked over and removed the mask from the woman's face, only to find a rather attractive Clusian woman beneath.
So this is Jennifer?' Zoe thought skeptically. 'I don't even know her. Why would she hire a hitman to kill me?'
"Have we met before?" Zoe demanded, staring down at the woman.
The woman glanced at Zoe briefly before lowering her head submissively.
Zoe sensed something off. She abruptly lifted the woman's chin, forcing her mouth open with a firm pinch of her fingers. What she found was a throat severely damaged—likely chemically burned to render her speechless.
"Are you sure this is Jennifer Dillon?" Zoe asked skeptically.
Dimitri said firmly, "If Francis handed her over, she must be the right one. He wouldn't dare lie to me."
Zoe said nothing.
The woman looked completely numb. She was nothing like a cold-blooded killer, but more like a broken soul who had endured endless torture. Zoe didn't believe that she would hire a hitman.
Perhaps Dimitri was also deceived by Francis,' Zoe pondered. 'Or maybe Francis never even saw Jennifer's true identity—he might be fooled, too.'
In fact, it was more likely that Francis had also been deceived. After all, to most foreigners, all Clusians look alike.
"How do you plan to deal with her?" Dimitri asked.
"Let her go," Zoe said. "She's not the real one."
Dimitri slammed the table, his voice thundering, "So Francis has deceived me?"
Zoe kept her thoughts to herself. If this wasn't the real Jennifer, then the search had to continue.
"Rest assured, I'll track down the real Jennifer for you," Dimitri said.
"How's the other matter coming along?" Zoe asked, her gaze fixed on Dimitri.
Dimitri flashed a confident smile. "No problem at all. Everything you requested is fully prepared and waiting."
At Dimitri's signal, two men entered the room carrying four large barrels filled to the brim with gasoline.
Just douse this place with gasoline and plant their custom-made explosives—by dawn, the whole place will be a blazing wasteland.
Zoe nodded approvingly. "Well done."
Dimitri beamed at the praise, eyes gleaming with excitement. "So, are we finally going to throw down with the Underground Kingdom?"
