Sure enough, several people burst in frantically, ready to evacuate the patients.
But when they spotted Shawn, they stopped in surprise.
"Who are you? What are you doing here?" one of them asked.
"And who might you be?" Shawn countered.
At this point, Shawn had put on a white lab coat to conceal his identity. Seeing the coat, the people immediately assumed he was one of the doctors here.
"There's a fire! What's wrong with your people? Why aren't these patients evacuated yet? Do you have any idea who they are? If even one of them dies, the Underground Kingdom will face hell's wrath!" that person said.
Shawn had come to stop the surgeries. Since these people were evacuating the patients, he didn't mind lending a hand.
"I'm here to help evacuate the patients," Shawn replied calmly.
"Just you alone?" one of them questioned in disbelief.
"Yes," Shawn replied. In fact, the real medical staff were all knocked out and hid by him.
"The Underground Kingdom is really irresponsible. Only one person shows up to help in a crisis? I can't believe it!" someone grumbled.
"Enough talk," another one snapped. "Let's get them out of here—unless you've got a death wish."
"Hey you! Get over here and help," someone shouted to Shawn.
The people completely mistook Shawn for medical staff and barked at him to help. Playing along, he helped them wheel the patients out of the ward.
Having dealt with the problems upstairs, Zoe headed straight to B2 level to regroup with Shawn.
Just like Shawn, Zoe intercepted a fleeing staff member, swiftly stripped him of his lab coat and mask, and donned them to blend in.
When Shawn and Zoe crossed paths in the corridor, even fully masked and gowned, they instantly recognized each other.
Shawn looked over in relief. "You're here to help too? Perfect timing—we're desperately short-handed."
Zoe rushed to Shawn's side and helped him push the hospital bed.
"What is going on?" she asked.
"These aren't ordinary patients. They're preparing to move them," Shawn said quietly.
Just one glance at the patients told Zoe their conditions were critical—they were clearly at the point where immediate surgeries were imperative.
Zoe instantly grasped what Shawn meant.
The others were rushing to move these patients, so there must be backup operating rooms here. If that was the case, Zoe and Shawn couldn't just leave carelessly—they had to wipe out this organ trafficking operation for good.
The group reached the elevator—the only way up or down in this underground facility.
Just then, a man strode over. "Perfect timing," he said. "Follow me. The backup ORs are ready, and the surgical team is standing by. We can begin as soon as everyone's in place."
The people looked surprised. "Shouldn't we get out of here first? What if the fire spreads and we end up trapped?"
"The backup ORs have a dedicated emergency exit route that's completely separate from this area," the man explained. "The surgeries can be performed there without any safety concerns."
"Perfect! Now we won't be blamed when we get back," someone in the group said. "Show us the way!"
As the man led the way, Zoe and Shawn blended in with the others, moving the patients to what the man called the backup ORs.
The underground facility was even larger than Zoe and Shawn had imagined. After passing through an electronic gate made of special metal, it was like stepping into a high-tech zone—everything here looked state-of-the-art.
The walls were lined with motion-sensor lighting that automatically illuminated as they moved. All materials used were heat-resistant and fireproof, and an independent ventilation system ensured flawless air circulation.
