The crowd buzzed with nervous whispers, both awed and intimidated by the Black Knight.
Aileen shot the Black Knight a look and urged, "Sir, hurry up and finish off this woman. She's way too arrogant—she's the one who ruined the auction."
Aileen had never met the Black Knight, but with everyone around praising how formidable he was, he must truly be extraordinary. After all, he was part of the King's inner circle—how could someone like that be a nobody?
Aileen cast a look of disdain at the good-for-nothings sprawled on the ground. 'I actually thought these idiots could teach Zoe a lesson,' she fumed to herself, 'but instead, they all got their asses handed to them. How embarrassing.'
Aileen now pinned all her hopes on the Black Knight. Taking in his tree-trunk arms and barrel chest, she couldn't trust him more.
The Black Knight strode up to Zoe, his eyes glinting with murderous intent. "You ruined the auction?" he asked.
"Yes," Zoe said flatly.
"Great then. It's fair for me to kill you then," the Black Knight said, cracking his knuckles and rolling his shoulders. The ominous sound of his joints cracking was enough to haunt the timid in their dreams.
Aileen watched Zoe with a mocking smile and sneered, "Scared now, aren't you? Too late—even if you beg for mercy, it won't help. You're as good as dead."
Zoe paid no heed to Aileen's taunts, instead meeting the Black Knight's gaze with steady calm.
The Black Knight blinked, taken aback, and thought, 'She isn't cowering under my glare. She must have something up her sleeve.'
"Black Knight! Black Knight!" Suddenly, a chant broke out from the crowd, showing just how devoted his fanbase was.
The Black Knight raised his hand, instantly hushing the crowd. Turning to Zoe with a cold stare, he said, "Tell me—how do you wish to die?"
Zoe lifted her gaze to the Black Knight, her deep eyes glinting with icy detachment.
The Black Knight said, "You wrecked the King's auction. If I drag you before him, you'll be flayed alive and fed to the vipers. But I'm feeling generous. Choose your poison, and I'll make it quick."
Her silence only fueled the Black Knight's irritation. "Don't get cute with me," he warned.
"Enough talk, Black Knight! Kill her now," someone roared, the crowd hungry for blood.
Aileen grew really anxious, afraid the Black Knight might let Zoe slip away. To ensure Zoe's doom, she had to make sure the Black Knight saw Zoe as a threat. "Sir, you have no idea how dangerous she is. She's beyond arrogant—thinks she's above everyone.
"She told me herself that trashing an auction was nothing. She even said she'd take the King's head one day."
Hearing this, the Black Knight's eyes instantly sharpened as he fixed a piercing glare on Aileen.
Aileen stumbled back in fear, blurting out, "It wasn't me. She's the one who said it. Just look at how arrogant she is—she doesn't give a damn about you."
The Black Knight's reputation was one of unyielding authority. No one disrespected him and got away with it. Whether Aileen's words were true or not, he couldn't afford to look weak.
He rolled his shoulders, cracking his neck. "Fine," he said, his voice low and dangerous. "If you won't choose, I'll choose for you."
With a fierce shout, the Black Knight threw a powerful punch, the force of it whizzing just past Zoe's face.
Everyone thought Zoe was a goner, but she stood unfazed—not even blinking as the fist hurtled toward her.
"She's done for," someone whispered in the crowd.
"I can't bear to watch," another one muttered.
Aileen was practically giddy with excitement. 'Let's see how cocky you can be now, Zoe!' she thought smugly. 'Shawn's mine.'
