The two guys who'd been knocked out finally came to and were looking to get payback from Zoe.
Zoe delivered a powerful roundhouse kick, sending the charging attacker flying away.
Seeing this, the other man frantically grabbed a weapon from the ground and fired wildly at Zoe. Every shot missed its mark. In the blink of an eye, Zoe had vanished. "Where is she? Where'd she go?" the man shouted in panic.
"Right here," Zoe whispered from right behind him, her voice chilling.
Something felt off. The man spun around, only to find Zoe right behind him. He lashed out instantly, but he was already a fatal second too late.
With a swift twist, Zoe snapped the man's neck, then strode coldly toward the sole survivor. "Take me to the King," she commanded.
"He's already run off. I-I really don't know where he is," the survivor stammered, voice trembling.
Zoe's patience ran out. Since the man was useless, there was no reason to keep him alive.
"Wait! Please!" the survivor stammered desperately. "I don't know where the King is, but I do know where your partner is."
Shawn. Zoe desperately wanted to know his whereabouts. Fixing her gaze on the survivor, she ordered coldly, "Lead the way."
The sole survivor, desperate to stay alive, had no choice but to lead the way for Zoe.
The underground base was a sprawling labyrinth, its countless branching corridors ready to disorient anyone unfamiliar with the place. The guide led Zoe through a dizzying series of twists and turns—over ten minutes passed, yet their destination remained frustratingly out of reach.
"Hold it!" Sensing something amiss, Zoe instantly pressed her gun to the back of the man's head.
"It's just up ahead," he said helplessly. "For security reasons, you have to take detours to reach every area—I really can't help it."
Zoe let him lead the way, but stayed vigilant, her sharp eyes meticulously scanning every shadow and corner around them.
"We're here. Your partner's in there," the man said, his voice trembling.
"Open the door. You go in first," Zoe commanded coldly.
Zoe's command didn't sway the guide. Shaking violently, he backed away and stammered, "N-no... Please, I can't go in there."
Zoe pressed the gun firmly against the back of his head, making it clear she wasn't in the mood for games.
The man said, "Threatening me won't help—going in there means certain death."
A chill gripped Zoe's heart. Was there danger lurking inside? She pinned the guide with a cold, hard stare and snapped, "Spill it. What's really going on in there?"
The man knew he couldn't hide it any longer. Terrified that Zoe would force him to his death, he finally confessed in a trembling voice, "This is the Viper Pit—Kadeem keeps all kinds of venomous snakes in there.
"One bite means certain death. Your partner... Well, he's probably already snake food by now."
Hearing this, Zoe knocked the man out cold with a single kick. Without a second thought, her eyes snapped to the button on the wall and she slammed it down.
The door swung open, plunging Zoe into total darkness. Her eyes didn't have time to adjust, leaving her momentarily blind. When she finally opened them, she was met with carnage—blood splattered everywhere, the floor littered with the corpses of venomous snakes.
Zoe's heart skipped a beat—she'd never felt so desperate to see Shawn. "Shawn!" she called out, her voice trembling with hope and fear.
The place was crawling with venomous snakes—just as the guide had warned. For any living soul who set foot in here, it was like entering hell itself, with almost no chance of survival.
