As Zoe stepped inside, a viper instantly sensed movement and lunged forward with lightning speed. Just as it bared its fangs to strike, she seized it by the vital spot behind its head and crushed its spine with brute force.
Without hesitation, Zoe wielded the dead serpent like a whip, flinging the attacking vipers away—each impact proving instantly fatal. The remaining vipers, sensing imminent danger, scattered in terror, all but the most enraged ones.
Zoe's eyes finally adjusted to the darkness, but she couldn't spot Shawn anywhere in the Viper Pit.
But soon, she spotted a cluster of vipers coiled tightly together. A faint metallic tang of blood lingered in the air.
Zoe frowned deeply as she strode straight toward the writhing mass of vipers. Just as she'd feared, there lay a corpse—the snakes already feasting on it.
Zoe's heart lurched—for a terrifying moment, she thought the corpse was Shawn. Instantly, her vision went red with rage. 'Damn snakes, every last one of you deserves to die,' she seethed inwardly.
Zoe drew a dagger. With swift, brutal efficiency, she slaughtered every single one of the hundreds of vipers in the chamber within minutes. A few drops of the snakes' blood spattered her face.
But none of that mattered to her. With an icy expression, she walked up to the mutilated corpse. Though the body was beyond recognition, she knew instantly—this wasn't Shawn.
Just then, a hand landed on Zoe's shoulder. Instinctively, she spun around, dagger flashing toward Shawn's throat—but before the blade could draw blood, he caught her wrist in an iron grip.
"It's me," Shawn said steadily, meeting Zoe's gaze.
When Zoe saw Shawn, her heart finally settled, and the murderous rage inside her dissipated like smoke. "Why did you emerge from outside?" she asked.
"Later. Let's go after Kadeem first—I found his hideout," Shawn said urgently. Both he and Zoe were after Kadeem; they couldn't let him escape now.
"I'll catch him myself," Zoe said icily. After what he'd put her through, making her worry, he would pay dearly for it.
Zoe didn't stop to question why she cared so much about Shawn. Right now, only one thought consumed her—Kadeem must die.
Meanwhile, Kadeem was holed up in his safe house, surrounded by his remaining nervous men.
"What's going on out there? Have you figured it out yet? I refuse to stay holed up in this damned place any longer!" Kadeem barked in fury.
Ever since he became the ruler of this exclusive district, no one had dared disrespect him, let alone threaten him.
But today, his trusted lieutenants had been defeated one after another—a slap in the face that forced him to cower like a rat in a hole, afraid to show himself. And all this humiliation was because of Zoe and Shawn.
Just then, the operative handling outside surveillance finally pulled up the feed. "Got it!" he barked, eyes locked on the screen.
Hearing this, Kadeem shoved his men aside and rushed to the computer screen—only to be met not with corpses, but with the terrifying sight of Zoe and Shawn cutting through enemies with chilling efficiency.
Like perfect soul partners, the two moved in flawless coordination, not exchanging a single word.
In this underground base, there were at least over a hundred elite fighters. Kadeem had issued a kill-on-sight order, convinced that Shawn had already been fed to the vipers, and sent everyone after Zoe.
But neither Shawn nor Zoe was dead. The duo moved like grim reapers—anyone who came close was left with no survivors.
Watching as every last one of the hundred-plus men at the base was slaughtered, Kadeem's curses froze in his throat. "These two... they're not even human," he thought in terror. "They're like grim reapers sent straight from hell—anyone who crosses their path is doomed."
"Move! Get out now. They must not find this place." Kadeem panicked, scrambling to escape.
But Kadeem's realization came a moment too late—a thunderous crash came from outside.
