With this deafening blast, the door was blown open by explosives. Zoe and Shawn stepped calmly through the lingering smoke, unfazed by the chaos, and entered the room.
Kadeem's legs trembled uncontrollably. He didn't understand why they came so quickly. He stammered, "I-I had a blast-proof wall. How could this happen?"
"See this? Shoddy construction at its finest," Zoe remarked casually as she effortlessly tore off a piece of metal from the wall with one hand.
Kadeem's forehead was drenched in cold sweat. 'This is insane,' he thought in terror.
At that moment, a man wrapped head to toe in bandages appeared. "Sir, I got this," he said, a chilling, murderous aura filling the air around him.
Zoe and Shawn's expressions turned cold as they saw the newcomer. As elite fighters themselves, they could instantly sense another expert's presence. But while this man might be formidable against ordinary opponents, he was no match for the two of them.
"Your turn or mine?" Zoe glanced at Shawn.
"I'll take him," Shawn said.
"Word is the woman's better. Send her out," Death, the bandaged man, taunted, pointing at her.
Zoe looked at him with a mocking smile. "Are you sure you want to choose me? With him, at least you'd get a quick death. But if it's me..." Her voice trailed off, the threat left hanging in the air.
Death sneered, clearly not taking Zoe seriously.
Zoe looked at Shawn. "What do we do?"
"You take him," Shawn conceded.
Zoe curled her lips into a smirk and planted a kiss on his lips. "Wait for me," she said with a playful grin.
Shawn was stunned for a moment.
Zoe strode straight toward Death, closing the distance between them with every confident step.
"Freeze!" Death commanded, leveling his firearm at Zoe.
Zoe raised her hands in mock surrender.
"You're no match for Death!" someone boasted.
Another said, "Death is the strongest in our exclusive district—undefeated and unmatched!"
"Scared now? Why don't you just surrender already?"
Seeing Zoe standing motionless, several of Kadeem's men exchanged smirks.
Zoe paid no heed to their taunts. Instead, she looked right past Death and fixed her gaze on Kadeem.
Kadeem felt a chill run down his spine under Zoe's piercing gaze, but he refused to back down.
Desperate, he blurted out, "What are you staring at, Death? Kill this wretched woman today, and I'll make you my second-in-command—your status will be second only to mine in the Underground Kingdom!"
Everyone was green with envy and even hatred—after all, becoming second-in-command meant controlling half of the exclusive district's territory. For such a prize, any of them would have fought tooth and nail for it.
Death's eyes turned icy when he saw that Zoe disregarded him as an opponent. "I'll give you the first move. Come at me," he sneered.
Zoe shot him a glance and smirked. "Save it. You're out of my league."
"You dare look down on me?" Death snarled.
Zoe said nothing.
Enraged, Death suddenly lunged forward with lethal precision, aiming to finish Zoe in a single strike. "Then take this," Death snarled.
The crowd burst into cheers as Death suddenly struck.
"That woman's a goner!"
"Serves her right."
"Let's all cheer for Death!"
The crowd's cheers fed Death's arrogance, driving him to strike with renewed viciousness.
With a thunderous crash, Death's fist—meant to shatter Zoe's skull—struck nothing but air and slammed straight into the ground instead.
Everyone stared at the ground, stunned to see the tiles shattered inch by inch beneath the force of Death's fist. True to his name, that punch would've crushed a human skull instantly—no one could've survived.
But just as everyone wondered where she had gone, she suddenly dropped down from above like a falling star, catching everyone off guard.
