Just as Death's fist descended, Zoe leaped up with lightning speed, wedging herself at an impossible angle against the corridor ceiling. In the next instant, she released her grip and dropped down, channeling the full force of her body into her right knee for a devastating strike.
Then everyone heard the sickening sound of bone snapping.
Death had just thrown a punch. 'That must have been the sound of bones breaking as he killed her,' the crowd thought. Everyone eagerly turned, only to find both of them still standing there, frozen in place.
Everyone tried to figure out what just happened and who actually won.
Just then, Death took a step forward. The crowd let out a collective sigh of relief—it seemed Death had won.
"See? I told you—no one can beat Death!"
"That woman's already a corpse."
"Excellent work, Death! As promised, you'll be the second-in-command of my Underground Kingdom," Kadeem exclaimed triumphantly. He thought smugly, 'With the most troublesome woman out of the way, Dealing with the other one is just a matter of time.'
Shawn watched the scene unfold with cold indifference, his eyes flashing with undisguised disdain.
Death staggered forward two steps, then suddenly pitched face-first onto the ground, his body rigid. Blood gushed from his eyes, ears, nose, and mouth as he convulsed once—then fell completely still.
The crowd gasped in shock—they thought Death had won.
Zoe let out a cold chuckle as her piercing gaze locked onto Kadeem.
It was only then that Kadeem realized—even Death had been defeated in a single move. 'Is there anyone left in this world who can possibly contain her?' he thought in terror.
As Zoe strode toward him, Kadeem's legs gave out and he dropped to one knee with a heavy thud, trembling uncontrollably.
Witnessing this, Kadeem's men didn't dare act tough anymore. One after another, they got down on one knee beside their king. Zoe hadn't even lifted a finger, yet a sea of people was already kneeling before her.
Kadeem said, his voice trembling, "My Queen, I was wrong! From now on, there is no king here—only you, my Queen. I'm willing to give you everything I have. Please don't kill me."
He went all out to save his own skin, but alas, his pleas came just a beat too late.
Zoe advanced on him, a dagger flashing in her hand—no one knew when it had appeared. In one swift, merciless strike, she plunged the blade in and killed him.
Kadeem's eyes bulged wide in shock—he was dead, already.
The crowd watched in horror, their faces deathly pale. Blood gushed uncontrollably from the gaping wound on Kadeem's neck—impossible to staunch.
Zoe let the dagger clatter to the floor, then, with deliberate calm, pulled an embroidered handkerchief from his waistcoat pocket to wipe the blood from her hands. Finally, she draped the cloth over his head.
Only then did Kadeem finally collapse stiffly to the ground with a thud.
Everyone was utterly terrified by Zoe's chilling nonchalance. This was way too terrifying. Huddled together and trembling, they looked like they wished the ground would open up and swallow them whole.
Zoe's cold gaze swept across the trembling, kneeling crowd, but she made no further move.
Just then, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed from outside—Dimitri and his men had arrived.
When Dimitri saw Kadeem's corpse, he immediately dropped to one knee. The men behind him followed suit in perfect unison. "My Queen!"
Dimitri extended his hand to Zoe, dropping to one knee. "My Queen," he declared, "I pledge myself as your knight—my life and loyalty are yours forever."
"Loyalty to you, my Queen!" the men behind him thundered in unison.
"Not interested," Zoe said flatly.
Dimitri stood up and declared, "Regardless of what you think, as long as this exclusive district remains under my control, everything here belongs to you. You may come to exercise authority at any time, and I shall remain at your command."
